Ms. Zhou Jinlian from Hunan Province Given a Three-Year Prison Term

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhou Jinlian, 51, from Yongxing County, Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, was given a three-year prison term by the Yongxing County Court in late March 2019. It was reported that Ms. Zhou was secretly tried by the court.

Ms. Zhou's family recently visited her. They noticed that Ms. Zhou was in terrible condition as a result of several months of abuse. They are worried as to whether she can survive the three-year prison term.

Nearly 5,000 people in Yongxing County were practicing Falun Gong by 1999. Ms. Zhou had just joined the practice that year.

At the instigation of former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin, the nationwide persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999. The CCP mobilized the state-run media to slander the spiritual practice and incite people to turn against practitioners. Unable to withstand the pressure, Ms. Zhou stopped practicing. Two years later, her family moved to Yongxing County. She met other practitioners and resumed the practice.

Ms. Zhou was arrested by officers from the Liyutang Town Police Station on October 8, 2018 for talking to people about Falun Gong in Liyutang Town, Yongxing County. She was held in the Chenzhou City Detention Center.

Ms. Zhou had previously been arrested several times for talking to people about Falun Gong.

On one occasion, her son cooperated with the local 610 Office and police, who arrested her and took her to the Changsha City Legal Education and Training Center (also known as the Laodaohe Brainwashing Center). She was held there for one month. The training center staff tortured her, including burning her with lit cigarettes and forcing her to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong.

Despite all their attempts to “transform” her, she refused to stop practicing. In the end, the personnel called in her son who had been influenced by the CCP's propaganda. He threw a quilt over Ms. Zhou's head in a threating manner and yelled, “Let's see if you are going to transform or not!”

We call for the public's attention to the plight of Ms. Zhou who has been imprisoned for her spiritual belief.
