Additional Persecution News from China – August 1, 2018 (20 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 12 provinces. According to this report, 40 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 17 were illegally arrested.

1. [Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Mr. Wang Ying and Ms. Wang Hongling Turned Over to Procuratorate

Mr. Wang Ying and Ms. Wang Hongling were followed and arrested on March 6, 2018, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. They were officially arrested on April 12.

Their cases were turned over to the Qingshan District Procuratorate on May 28.

2. [Beijing] Mr. Cheng Xiaofu's Case Turned Over to Court

Mr. Cheng Xiaofu from the Shunyi District is being held in the Nihe Detention Center. His case was passed to the Shunyi Court by the Shunyi Procuratorate on July 19, 2018.

3. [Baicheng City, Jilin Province] Ms. Yang Xiuyun and Her Daughter Ms. Li Yangbo Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Yang Xiuyun and her daughter Ms. Li Yangbo were arrested by Yin Jian and other officers from the Taobei District Domestic Security Division on October 10, 2017.

Ms. Yang and Ms. Li were tried by the Taobei Domestic Security Division and the Da'an City Procuratorate in the Da'an City Court on June 11, 2018. Both practitioners were sentenced to a two-year prison term and fined 5,000 yuan each on July 16.

4. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Four Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Four practitioners were tried in the Jintang County Court on the morning of July 26, 2018.

Ms. Wu Chunlan was sentenced to an eight-year prison term to be served outside prison and fined 10,000 yuan.

Mr. Guo Qingcheng and Ms. Jiang Yilin were each sentenced to a seven-year prison term to be served outside prison and fined about 7,000 yuan each.

Ms. Tang Xiaoyan was sentenced to a seven-year prison term and fined about 7,000 yuan.

5. [Tianjin] Ms. Huang Xiufen and Ms. Feng Ruijuan Detained

Ms. Huang Xiufen and Ms. Feng Ruijuan were reported to the authorities and arrested on July 29, 2018. They are being held in the Dagang Detention Center for five days of detention.

Both of their homes were ransacked.

6. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Lu Guiling Mistreated in Prison

Ms. Lu Guiling from Jiangjiazhai Village, Wenquan Town, was sentenced to a 19-year prison term in 2002. She has endured severe mental and physical abuse ever since.

She has been put in solitary confinement for extended periods of time, her teeth have almost all fallen out, and her hair has turned completely white.

7. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Li Mingxia Facing Second Trial

Ms. Li Mingxia was arrested by local Domestic Security officers for filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese Communist Party head Jiang Zemin, for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Li was tried in the Fangzi District Court on March 9, 2018. Her lawyer pleaded not guilty in her defense. The trial ended without verdict, due to a lack of evidence. The Court will give her a second trial on the morning of July 31.

Ms. Li is being held in the Weifang Detention Center.

8. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Zhong Haiyan Arrested

Ms. Zhong Haiyan from Hubei Province was arrested by the Xiaoluo Village police in Shiqiao Town, Fanyu District, Guangzhou City, on the evening of July 24, 2018. Her whereabouts are unknown.

9. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Liao Danyin Held in Custody

Ms. Liao Danyin was arrested for carrying two copies of Zhuan Falun when passing through customs at the Futian Port on January 8, 2018. She was returning from Hong Kong after visiting her father.

Ms. Liao is being held in custody.

10. [Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. He Cuiping and Ms. Meng Ling Detained

Ms. He Cuiping, 61, and Ms. Meng Ling, 55, were arrested by officers from the Zhabei Police Station in the Qingjiangpu District, while they were distributing Falun Gong materials on the evening of July 24, 2018.

The officers confiscated their Falun Gong books, a notebook computer, and desktop computer. Both practitioners were taken to the Huai'an City Detention Center.

11. [Yongqing County, Hebei Province] Ms. Jia Qingyun Detained

Ms. Jia Qingyun from Dongyangbazhuang Village works on odd jobs at the Huaneng Thermal Power Plant. She was arrested by officers from the Wangsiying Police Station in the Chaoyang District, for distributing software that circumvents the internet blockade in China. Her home was ransacked.

Ms. Jia was placed under criminal detention on July 18, 2018, and was taken to the Chaoyang Detention Center.

12. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhu Ya Sentenced to an Eight-Year Prison Term

Ms. Zhu Ya was sentenced to an eight-year prison term and fined 20,000 yuan by the Huangpi District Court on July 17, 2018.

13. [Changde City, Hunan Province] Ms. Xie Zhaoying and Ms. Shi Jiaju Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Xie Zhaoying and Ms. Shi Jiaju from Li County were arrested by the director of security in the Huotuan Residential Community, Mengxi Town, on July 23, 2018. Both practitioners were taken to the Changde City Brainwashing Center.

14. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Yuehong Arrested

Six plainclothes officers broke into Ms. Wang Yuehong's home and arrested her on the morning of July 20, 2018. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated a notebook computer and printer.

15. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Yulan Arrested

Ms. Sun Yulan from Zhuanghe City was arrested by a plainclothes officer at a bus station on July 31, 2018. She was first taken to the local police station, but her whereabouts are now unknown.

16. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Wang Yongsheng, from Antai Village, Fuzhoucheng Town, Wafangdian City, Ms. Chen Lirong, and one of her sisters, from Ganghou Village, were arrested by officers from the Xianyuwan Police Station on the evening of July 29, 2018.

17. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Guifang Detained

Ms. Zhang Guifang from the Shuangta District was reported to the authorities for talking to people about Falun Gong in Zhujiang Square on the morning of July 31, 2018. She was arrested by plainclothes officers from the Nanta Police Station.

Ms. Zhang is being held in the Chaoyang City Detention Center.

18. [Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province] Fourteen Practitioners Tried

Fourteen practitioners were tried in the Songhua District Court, Harbin City, on the morning of July 24, 2018. The trial lasted till 7:00 p.m.

The practitioners were handcuffed and shackled when they entered the courtroom, which their lawyers complained about.

The 14 practitioners are: Ms. Deng Shumei, Ms. Yao Huaiying, Mr. Tang Lifei, Ms. Pang Shuxian, Ms. Song Yuzhi, Ms. Song Konghua, Ms. Si Fenglan, Ms. Bo Baoling, Ms. Wang Yunjie, Ms. Wu Guiqin, Ms. Xia Guihua, Mr. Zhou Yan, Ms. Zhang Yanling, and Ms. Si Fengxiang.

19. [Fukang City, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region] Several Practitioners Taken to Brainwashing Center

Mr. Wang Junqiang, Mr. Li Heping, Ms. Fan Ping, Ms. Yu Fengling, and several other practitioners were arrested and taken to a brainwashing center in recent days.

Ms. Fan suffered from a uterine tumor and was taken to the Fukang City Hospital for surgery. She was tightly monitored during the surgery, and family visits were prohibited.

20. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] Nine Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Nine practitioners were tried for a second time in the Tiefeng District Court on June 5, 2018. Mr. Zhang Fuhai was sentenced to a two-year-and-ten-month prison term.

Mr. Li Shunjiang, Mr. Tian Yong, Mr. Wang Aihua, Mr. Zhang Liqun, Mr. Gao Fuping, and Mr. Zhao Yi were each sentenced a three-year prison term. The seven practitioners have appealed.

Mr. Zhang Shimin was sentenced a two-year-and-eight-month prison term and fined 20,000 yuan. Ms. Song Yulan was sentenced to an 18-month prison term with two years of probation, and was fined 10,000 yuan.
