Additional Persecution News from China – June 16, 2018 (21 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 9 provinces. According to this report, 17 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 24 were illegally arrested.

1. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Wang Shiguo Sentenced to Prison

Mr. Wang Shiguo was arrested by officers from the Guanghuajie Police Station while he was distributing Falun Gong materials on April 13, 2017. He was taken to the Anjing Detention Center in Pi County.

Mr. Wang was sentenced to a three-year prison term by the Qingyang District Court on March 25, 2018, and was taken to the Leshan Labor Reform Farm.

2. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Chen Jie Detained

Ms. Chen Jie was arrested by officers from the Dawan Town Police Station, Qingbaijiang District, on May 16, 2018. She was held in the Qingbaijiang Detention Center.

The Qingbaijiang police transferred Ms. Chen to the Pidu District Detention Center four days later.

3. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yuan Qiongxiu Detained

Ms. Yuan Qiongxiu was arrested by officers from the Jiahe Police Station on the morning of June 6, 2018. The officers confiscated a printer, DVD burner, computer, Falun Dafa books, and materials.

Ms. Yuan is being held in the Yongxing Detention Center.

4. [Fanchang County, Anhui Province] Ms. Xu Fengliu Detained

Ms. Xu Fengliu, a Chinese medicine pharmacist, was arrested by officers from the Fanchang County Domestic Security Division on May 28, 2018. Her home was ransacked.

Ms. Xu is being held in the Fanchang Detention Center.

5. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Several Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Qi Baohua, Mr. Qi Zhaoliang, Ms. Chen Xiuyun, Ms. Li Yueying, and other practitioners were arrested by officers from the Jitai Town Police Station in early June 2018. Their homes were ransacked.

6. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Four Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Yao Chuntang, his wife Ms. Xiuzhi, and another practitioner with the last name Zhang, from Jianqiao Village, Luocheng Neighborhood, were arrested on the evening of June 5, 2018. Ms. Wang Jinhua from the same village was arrested the following morning.

Zhang has since returned home. Ms. Xiuzhi and Ms. Wang were taken to the Weifang City Detention Center, while Mr. Yao was taken to the Shouguang City Detention Center.

7. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Chen Hengzhong Detained

Officer Wang Yang and others from the Development Zone police broke into Mr. Chen Hengzhong's home in Xi'anchen Village and ransacked it on the evening of May 8, 2018. Mr. Chen was arrested and taken to a detention center for 15 days of detention. Mr. Chen's mother, in her 90s, suffered a heart attack as a result and passed away on June 5.

8. [Qingzhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Feng Aixiang Detained

Ms. Feng Aixiang, from Zhengjia Village, Gaoliu Town, was arrested by officers from the Zhuliang Police Station on the afternoon of May 7, 2018. Her Falun Dafa books were confiscated.

Ms. Feng was taken to the Weifang Detention Center on June 8 for 15 days of detention.

9. [Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province] Several Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Liu Yuping, Ms. Shao Shiling, Mr. Na Renzhi, Ms. Xiong Chengxia, Ms. Zhou, elderly Ms. Zhou, Ms. Ma, and other practitioners were arrested in early June 2018.

Elderly Ms. Zhou was released due to her poor health. The other practitioners were taken to the Lianyungang City Detention Center.

10. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Six Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Zhao Xiaolu, Mr. Zhao Yijun, Mr. Ma Zhanguo, Mr. Yang Miao, Ms. Gong Yuzhi, and Ms. Wu Xiaojiao were arrested on October 5, 2016, for posting Falun Gong materials in Xinzhou City. They were taken to a local detention center.

The six practitioners were sentenced to prison by the Xinfu District Court in January 2018. They appealed, but the Zhangjiakou City Intermediate Court upheld the original verdicts in May 2018.

Ms. Zhao was sentenced to four years.Mr. Zhao was sentenced to three years.Mr. Ma was sentenced to two years and ten months.Mr. Yang was sentenced to three years.Ms. Gong was sentenced to six years.Ms. Wu was sentenced to two years and six months.

Ms. Zhao, Ms. Gong, and Ms. Wu were taken to the Yuci Prison in Shanxi Province. Mr. Zhao, Mr. Ma, and Mr. Yang were taken to Qi County in Shanxi.

11. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Yu Shurong and Her Husband Mr. Wei Qishan Detained

Ms. Yu Shurong and her husband Mr. Wei Qishan were arrested at their home by officers from the Changjiangdao Police Station on June 12, 2018. Their home was ransacked.

Ms. Yu and Mr. Wei were taken to the Qinhuangdao Detention Center.

12. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhou Yafang Mistreated in Prison

Ms. Zhou Yafang was sentenced to six years in prison. She is being held in the No. 7 Ward of Liaoning Women's Prison, and has about two years left on her prison term.

Ms. Zhou was made to stand every day from around 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from around December 20, 2017. She was not allowed to eat, and is now emaciated.

13. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Shi Jing and Ms. Shao Ying Taken to Prison

Ms. Shi Jing and Ms. Shao Ying were arrested by the Dumeng County police on April 2, 2017. They were each sentenced to five years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan by the Dumeng Court in late August 2017.

Ms. Shi Jing and Ms. Shao were taken to the Heilongjiang Women's Prison on April 25, 2018.

14. [Keshan County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Xu Jiying Detained

Mr. Xu Jiying from Keshan Farm was arrested at the Harbin Train Station on June 14, 2018. He was taken to the Keshan County Detention Center for ten days of detention.

15. [Ya'an City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Liu Tingzhen Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Liu Tingzhen from the Mingshan District was arrested and taken to the Duoying Detention Center on March 13, 2018. She was sentenced to a two-year-and-three-month prison term on June 6.

Ms. Liu is still being held in the detention center.

16. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced

Ms. Tang Yunxia, Ms. Zhong Fangqiong, and Ms. Xiong Suying were arrested in October 2016 and appeared in court on June 6, 2018.

Their lawyers entered a “not guilty” plea in the practitioners' defense, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong. However, the presiding judge convicted all three women at the end of the court hearing.

Ms. Tang was sentenced to five years in prison, Ms. Zhong was sentenced to four years in prison, and Ms. Xiong was sentenced to three years in prison. They were also each ordered to pay a fine of 5,000 yuan.

17. [Chenzhou City, Hunan Province] Ms. Cao Liping Detained

It was learned recently that Ms. Cao Liping has been held in a brainwashing center in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province since her arrest on April 12, 2018.

Ms. Cao, 42, is a Chenzhou native, but was living in Lechang City, Guangdong Province at the time of her arrest. She was targeted because she had been persistently seeking justice for her husband, Mr. Liang Jianjun.

Mr. Liang was arrested on May 25, 2017, and was sentenced to five years in prison on December 26 for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong. His appeal was rejected around February 2018, and he was transferred to the Bietou Prison on March 21.

Ms. Cao is being held in a brainwashing center, which is managed by Peng Guanhua, head of the Chenzhou 610 Office. Ms. Cao was the only Falun Gong practitioner when she was first taken there, but Ms. Li Xiangqian joined her on June 4, and Ms. Zhou Huizhen on June 8. Both Ms. Li and Ms. Zhou are practitioners from Chenzhou.

Ms. Zhou's husband, Mr. Li Muduo, is now being held in a local hospital.

18. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Jiang Jianhua Sentenced

Ms. Jiang Jianhua was arrested on October 8, 2017, for refusing to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. She appeared in court on May 25, 2018, and was sentenced to five years in prison on June 8.

Ms. Jiang is still being held in the Shenyang City Detention Center.

19. [Xiong County, Hebei Province] Ms. Du Hexian Sentenced

Ms. Du Hexian was arrested on September 26, 2017, for refusing to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. She was sentenced to seven years in prison on June 15, 2018, after two hearings.

Ms. Du coughed up blood and passed out during her first hearing on December 8, 2017. She had been on hunger strike to protest the illegal detention, but was still made to stand trial despite her fragile condition.

Her second hearing took place on January 12, 2018. Her two lawyers discovered the day before that Ms. Du was not given advance notice of her hearing as required by law.

The Xiong County Court announced the verdict against Ms. Du in Baoding Detention Center on June 15. She has since filed an appeal.

20. [Changyi County, Hebei Province] Ms. Yang Jinmei’s Appeal Turned Down

Ms. Yang Jinmei was arrested on April 27, 2017, for refusing to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. Her trial was set for February 7, 2018, and her daughter, who had been approved to serve as her defender, was arrested on the day of trial. Her lawyer was also barred from attending the court proceedings.

Ms. Yang was thus tried without legal representation, and was sentenced to five years in prison on March 25.

The Qinghuangdao Intermediate Court notified her family on June 18 to pick up the court ruling. Her family noticed that the ruling was dated June 7 and stated that her appeal had been turned down.

The whole appeal process was kept very quiet, and neither Ms. Yang's family nor lawyer were given any update on the case, except for the final ruling.

21. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Mr. Guo Yunqing Remains in Prison

Mr. Guo Yunqing was sentenced to a 14-year prison term in 2007 and is incarcerated in the Gongzhuling Prison. His wife, Ms. Du Hongfang, was sentenced to an eight-year prison term in 2008.

Ms. Du has since been released, but she worries about her husband and their son, who had to drop out of school at a young age due to his parents' repeated arrests. Her son is still trying to recover from years of being bullied.
