Eliminating the Attachment to Cell Phones
(Minghui.org) After reading the Minghui Editorial “What All Dafa Disciples Must Know,” I thought a lot about the issues discussed by this Editorial.
Addiction to Cell Phones Brings Out Demon Nature
I used to be someone who was extremely attached to my cell phone. I looked at it when crossing the road, eating my meals, before bedtime, when I opened my eyes in the morning, when I was on a bus, or when meeting with relatives and friends.
I was attracted to watching novels, TV shows, videos, games, chat rooms, and shopping applications. I played so much with my cell phone that I developed nearsightedness. My attachment permeated my entire being and pushed me into giving up Falun Dafa.
As I continued playing with my cell phone, my demon nature was increasing, my health deteriorated, and I kept losing my temper.
After a family tribulation in 2015, I returned to cultivation. Soon enough, I realized that my cell phone had stored information that was detrimental to my mental health. It reinforced attachments to lust, desires, show-off mentality, jealousy, and the competitive mentality, among others.
I deleted WeChat, QQ and some shopping applications. But, staying away from my cell phone was harder than I had imagined. I stopped, resumed, then stopped again. However, my desire for using the cellphone lessened.
Master then hinted in a dream that cell phone usage is extremely harmful and I had to let go of this attachment. I realized that when touching my cell phone, my demon nature was enforced. Nowadays, cell phones are full of evil demons. For example, when I made some notes, some dirty words appeared on the screen. This helped me more clearly understand the harm brought about by cell phones.
Master said, “At the crucial moment when I ask you to break away from humanness, you do not follow me. Each opportunity will not occur again.” (“Digging Out the Roots” from Essentials For Further Advancement)
Changing One's Way of Thinking
Many local practitioners were hesitant to clean their cell phones because those are convenient tools to chat with family. At a discussion forum, some people claimed that they needed these applications for work or getting assignments from their teachers. It would be troublesome without certain cell phone applications. I must admit that I also held these thoughts. True, WeChat has become an indispensable part of our daily life.
But how can I resolve this conflict? Suddenly, I realized that my way of thinking was completely wrong. Master said, “You make your own choice ...” (Zhuan Falun)
We are practitioners, and we have supernatural abilities. Everything around us will change with our thoughts, including the environment. If we firm up our righteous thoughts, follow unconditionally what's required according to the Minghui editor's article, our work and living environment would then also change.
When I thought about deleting the WeChat application, I thought that people would not understand me, be upset, or complain about me. There were some people who complained when I disappeared from WeChat or criticized me when they saw me. Most likely, this had to do with my attachment to sentimentality, reputation, being afraid of not being understood, the desire to use WeChat, and so on.
Once I deleted WeChat, people got used to it. It does not really matter what people thought about my action, as they treat many wrong things as right.
Many worries come from our attachments. When we are determined, things change. We did not have WeChat in the past, but we still did our work, studied and shopped. Everyone can snap out of human notions, use the Fa to judge and practitioners' righteous thoughts to decide what we should and should not do.
“Furthermore, it is also a strong desire. Some people also know that it is not good, but they just cannot quit. In fact, let me tell you that they do not have correct thoughts to guide themselves, and it will not be easy for them to quit that way. As a practitioner, why don’t you take it as an attachment to be abandoned, and see if you can quit.” (Zhuan Falun)
If we proactively eliminate our attachments and notions that do not comply with the Fa, and eliminate bad things, we truly are “going against the tide.”
