70-year-old Couple Detained for Trying to Rescue Daughter-in-law
(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Guizheng, 70, and her non-practitioner husband from Lianxing Township in the Shuangcheng District of Harbin City appealed to fellow citizens to help rescue their daughter-in-law, who had been arrested. They ended up being arrested themselves
The couple was arrested around 5:00 a.m. on April 19, 2018. Ms. Sun was taken to the Yaziquan Detention Center, and her husband to the Shuangcheng Detention Center.
The couple's son and daughter-in-law practice Falun Gong. Following orders from the 610 Office, the police broke into their home to arrest the son. He wasn't there, so they arrested the daughter-in-law, Ms. Guo Yurong, instead. They ransacked the home and confiscated everything that was related to Falun Gong, as well as a computer and a printer.
Ms. Guo was taken to Yaziquan Detention Center. A few days later the family was told to come in and pick up all her clothing. They later learned that the detention center would strip an inmate of all clothing when the charge was of a criminal nature.
Seeing that their son's family was being persecuted for their belief, the elderly couple appealed to local villagers and asked them to help. The couple collected signatures from the locals and delivered the signatures to the government, hoping the officials would listen.
The officials ignored their pleas and the signatures and even stepped up their efforts to persecute local practitioners.
With local officials from the 610 Office in charge, the police were ordered to go to different villages in the district. A dozen officers went to each practitioner's home, arrested them, and ransacked their homes.
Aside from Ms. Sun Guizheng, her husband, and their daughter-in-law, other arrested practitioners include Guan Yubin, He Liying, and Cui Baolian.
