Reaching Out with Compassion to Save a Prison Guard
(Minghui.org) I was illegally arrested in 2004 and held in a forced labor camp for two years. During that time, I clarified the truth about Falun Dafa to the guards so that they could make a choice to stop participating in the persecution of Dafa practitioners and have a good future.
Wang, one of the guards in the camp, was in her 30s. She frequently mistreated practitioners.
One day, she called me to her office and said, “You look like a government official. [In fact, I was not.] Why did you put yourself in a situation to end up here in the camp? Don’t you regret it?”
“I have never regretted practicing Falun Dafa because Dafa has renewed me,” I replied. “Now I know why people live and how to be a good person according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. And I understand that good is rewarded with good, and evil incurs evil.”
She asked, “Why are you so superstitious? You have opposed the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Why do you persist?”
“This is not superstition,” I countered. “Even though you do not believe in Buddhas, they do, in fact, exist. However, they exist in different dimensions that we cannot see with our naked eyes.
“I can tell that you are an educated person, and you may consider the following example: Although the CCP has advocated atheism and ruined our nation's 5,000-year-old culture and traditional virtues, deep in their hearts, people do respect Gods.”
She was listening and nodded.
“I don’t regret it,” I continued. “Although we are persecuted today, I have a chance to know you, which may be due to a predestined relationship. You seem to be a person with compassion. I heard that you take care of your parents and your daughter. From your parents’ point of view, you must be a good daughter, and, from your daughter’s perspective, I'll bet you are a good mother.”
Her expression softened.
“Your family may not know that you are faced with a group of good people who believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” I continued. “These people would never fight back or ask for any personal gain. However, they are persecuted just because of their faith.
“When your family finds out the truth, they will realize that you are here to torture good people every day. What will they think of you? As an officer, your duty is to suppress evil and promote goodness. That is the duty that God has given you. However, isn't what you are doing the opposite and against God's will? Do you think that you will be rewarded? Good is rewarded with good, and evil is met with evil. For both you and your family, you should think it through.”
I don’t know where I found the courage to speak to her like that for more than an hour. I challenged her by saying “If I were your sister and was diagnosed with breast cancer, my cancer would be cured by practicing Falun Dafa. But then I would be detained and persecuted. How would you treat me?”
She walked toward the window and turned her back to me, but I could tell that she was wiping her eyes. She then turned around and said, “Don’t talk to anyone about this conversation, otherwise, you will suffer.”
From then on, she changed. She took it easy on—and even helped—Dafa practitioners detained in the camp.
When I was released, she walked me to the camp gate. She said with tears in her eyes, “I sympathize with your experience. You can practice at home, but pay attention to safety. I don’t want to see you here again.
“Since you are leaving now, I want to tell you that I have two Falun Dafa books on my bookshelf and that my grandma used to practice Falun Dafa. I glanced through those books, and they really do tell people how to be good and to do good deeds.
“The CCP has done everything in its power to persecute Falun Dafa even as it all but ignores corruption, smuggling, and robbery. Persecuting good people will hasten its demise, sooner rather than later.”
“You can stop by my hometown and come to my house,” I told her. “Thank you, and I will not come here again. Please remember Falun Dafa is good!”
I continued doing the three things after I returned home. For many years now, I have wondered if that guard ever quit the CCP.
I hope that we practitioners can change their mindsets and hurry to save more people, especially those officers and guards who are deeply poisoned by the evil Party.
