Teaching Middle School Students Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance
(Minghui.org) I am a middle school teacher in a coastal town in southern China, who started to practice Falun Dafa in December 1997.
Before practicing Falun Dafa, I was always curious about the purpose of life, because everyone seemed to pursue fame and fortune.
Since I began to practice Falun Dafa, I always have a smile on my face, even when I was illegally detained in a labor camp. Happiness comes from Dafa, which is not related to the material environment of this world. It is a kind of freeing attitude and calmness practiced by cultivators.
I follow the Dafa principles of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” and try to impart that to my students. I want them to feel the preciousness of it from the demeanor of a cultivator.
Students Trust Dafa Practitioners
One of my female students whispered in my ear that she needed a sanitary napkin. I did not have any but offered to buy one in the school store, as she felt too embarrassed to go and get one. The saleswoman told me that many young girls feel embarrassed and said, “You treat your students well and they feel comfortable coming to you for help.”
Xiaoying, a former student of mine visited me when she got admitted to college and gave me three large dragon fruits. She bought them with money she had earned over the summer. I was touched because dragon fruit was very expensive, so I cut up the fruit and we ate together and chatted.
She told me that while in the seventh grade she and several classmates were asked to come to the principal's office. The principal asked them what I talked about in class that was not related to the subject matter of class. I had always told my students the truth about the persecution of Falun Dafa. Xiaoying said that in addition to class instructions, I taught them to be good people, and she did not say anything more.
Because I practice Falun Dafa, a local Political and Legal Affairs Committee member demanded that the new school principal not let me teach, and said that this was ordered by higher authorities. So, I stayed home for six months. But, in the second half of the year, I was called back to teach.
The principal told me, “If the authorities ask me about you, I will tell them you are just subbing for other teachers.”
When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecuted Falun Dafa most seriously, people from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee wanted to see me several times, but could never get ahold of me as I was protected by Master Li (the founder of the practice).
Changing Difficult Students
The class I was given on my return was the most unruly class at a particular grade level. They were not disciplined, had poor academic performance, and were not taking care of their classroom maintenance responsibilities. I had heard that this was a difficult class, but I could not refuse to take the assignment.
Through contact with students and communication with parents, I found out the specific situation of each student in that class. Two of my female students were the biggest problem. They shared the same table, did not pay attention in class, talked loudly, often fought with their teachers, and used bad language. Other students in the classroom were afraid of them. One of them named Chunpeng had connections with gangsters outside of school.
Both parents came for a conference and Shiyi's father asked if I could separate the two girls in class, which I did.
When I tried to change the seat arrangements, Chunpeng started yelling, using bad language. She also held on to Shiyi's table so I could not move it. I had never witnessed such behavior from a student and did not know what to do. I asked Chunpeng to leave the classroom. She behaved irrational and out of control, refusing to listen to me. I forced her out and she left, kicking the wall as she went.
In my heart, I asked Master for help. Soon, she quietly returned to the classroom and sat down. I moved Shiyi's table and was grateful in my heart that I was guided at that crucial time.
Parents Understood the Truth and Were Rewarded
A male student was in a serious car accident on his way home from school, injuring his head. He was unconscious in the ICU, with many tubes in his body. The doctor said even if he wakes up he may remain in a vegetative state. His parents were distraught. They were humble peasants. The driver in the accident only gave them 10,000 yuan, which was not enough to pay for more treatments.
I told this boy's parents about Falun Dafa. I gave them an amulet and encouraged them to repeat the words, “Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” I clarified the truth about Dafa and the persecution and I suggested that they quit the CCP and its youth organizations, which they did.
He was discharged from the hospital a few months later. I purchased some fruit and fish and took some students with me to visit him. He looked thin, lying on the couch, but in good spirits and smiling. The students gathered around him to chat. His mother told me he was quickly recovering.
I noticed a picture of Mao Zedong, the CCP founder, on the wall in their living room. I said to the mother, “He initiated many political campaigns such as the Cultural Revolution and killed tens of millions of Chinese people. His sins were so grave that his wife was put in jail and committed suicide. His sons either died young or went crazy. It is bad luck to have his picture in your house.” His mother said she did not realize that and took it down immediately.
A year later the boy returned to school. His parents believed in the power of Dafa and quit the CCP, which helped their son's recovery.
