Additional Persecution News from China – March 3, 2018 (17 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 10 provinces. According to this report, 13 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 9 were illegally arrested.

1. [Heishan County, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhao Sue Detained

Ms. Zhao Sue was arrested by officers from the Heishan County Domestic Security Division and the Dahushan Town Police Station on January 13, 2018. The police confiscated personal items from her. She is being held in the Jinzhou Detention Center.

The Heishan County Police Department approved Ms. Zhao's arrest and sent her case to the Heishan Procuratorate.

2. [Xingtai City, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Mengjie Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Mengjie has been detained for approximately one-and-a-half years. He was recently sentenced to a five-year prison term and fined 20,000 yuan by the Qiaodong Court.

Mr. Zhang and his family appealed to the Xingtai City Intermediate Court.

3. [Beijing] Ms. Li Shuyan's Whereabouts Unknown

Ms. Li Shuyan was arrested on January 8, 2018. Her arrest has been approved, but her whereabouts are unknown.

4. [Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. An Xinyun Imprisoned

Ms. An Xinyun, 70, was sentenced to a 19-month prison term and fined 15,000 yuan by the Jiaozhou City Court in January 2018. She was later taken to the Jinan Women's Prison.

5. [Penglai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Xue Yufen's Sentence Upheld

Ms. Xue Yufen was arrested on September 1, 2017, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was later sentenced to a six-month prison term by the Laishan District Court.

Ms. Xue appealed, but her sentence was upheld by an intermediate court. She was released from the Yantai Detention Center on February 28, 2018.

6. [Honghu City, Hubei Province] Ms. Jin Lan's Whereabouts Unknown

The whereabouts of Ms. Jin Lan, 50, are unknown.

7. [Beihai City, Guangxi Province] Mr. Pan Xing Taken to Brainwashing Center

Mr. Pan Xing was arrested at his home by officers from Beihai City on February 26, 2018. He was taken to a brainwashing center.

8. [Chongqing] Ms. Dong Guohui's Home Ransacked

Ms. Dong Guohui's home was ransacked by four men and three women on January 25, 2018. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong, a few volumes of Minghui Weekly, and other personal items.

9. [Guanghan City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Hualian Persecuted

Ms. Yang Hualian is imprisoned in the No. 2 Ward of Chengdu Women's Prison. She is forced to do hard labor during the day and stand as punishment until approximately 1:00 a.m. the following morning.

In addition, Ms. Yang has to clean the toilets every morning and is not allowed to talk to other practitioners. The prison guards also pay no attention when other inmates verbally abuse her.

10. [Shifang City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Ren Shenglin Sentenced

Mr. Ren Shenglin and another elderly practitioner were arrested by plainclothes officers from the Huilan Police Station on November 16, 2016. His home was ransacked.

Mr. Ren was tried by the Shifang City Court on July 17, 2017, and later sentenced to a seven-year prison term. He is being held in the No. 4 Ward of Jiazhou Prison.

11. [Shihezi City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region] Two Practitioners Detained

Ms. Zhan Ying and her daughter are being held in the Shihezi City No. 1 Detention Center.

12. [Hu County, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Liu Chunxia Appeals Sentence

Ms. Liu Chunxia was arrested with her mother Ms. Li Yuhua on March 21, 2017. They were targeted because they refused to renounce their belief in Falun Gong.

Ms. Li was released on June 14.

Ms. Liu appeared in court on December 26, 2017, and was sentenced to four years in prison on January 4, 2018.

Ms. Liu developed high blood pressure not long after, and was taken to the Ankang Hospital (affiliated with the Xi'an Police Department). When her lawyer visited her in the hospital, Ms. Liu told him that she was forced to take unknown pills four times a day.

Her lawyer helped her to file an appeal with the Xi'an City Intermediate Court.

13. [Kunming City, Yunnan Province] Mr. Li Wenbo Recovers a Year After Being Released

It took Mr. Li Wenbo one year to recover from the health problems he developed while being imprisoned for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong.

The 52-year-old was arrested on May 11, 2009, and was sentenced to five years in prison five months later. His appeal was turned down and he was transferred to the Yunnan Province First Prison on March 5, 2010.

Mr. Li suffered various forms of torture during his imprisonment. His health quickly deteriorated and he was diagnosed with anemia, heartburn and acid reflux, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Mr. Li was set to be released on April 23, 2014. Inmate Li Shoujun and the guard on duty that day kicked him while he was getting ready to leave the prison.

Mr. Li persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises after he was released. He eventually recovered from his injuries a year later.

14. [Rushan City, Shandong Province] Mr. Zheng Xuefei Sentenced

Mr. Zheng Xuefei was sentenced to four years in prison for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong. His appeal now rests with the Weihai Intermediate Court.

A judge surnamed Wang was assigned to the case.

Mr. Zheng, 42, was a physical education teacher in Xiachu Town Zhongxin School. He was arrested on July 14, 2017, while talking to people about Falun Gong. His lawyer found that the local police fabricated evidence against him, but he was still convicted after his court hearing on December 1.

15. [Dehui City, Jilin Province] Mr. Sun Guichang and His Wife Ms. Xiao Yongfen Facing Trial

Officers from the Dehui Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Sun Guichang and his wife Ms. Xiao Yongfen at their home on September 24, 2017. They were taken to the Changchun No. 2 Detention Center.

The authorities there refused to accept Ms. Xiao because of her poor physical condition. She was released under supervision. Mr. Sun has been held in Dehui Detention Center. The couple are facing trial.

Officers from the Wutai Police Station drove Ms. Xiao to the Changchun hospital for a physical exam on February 28. She failed it again. The detention center refused to accept her and she was taken home that night.

16. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Guo Xuhong and Ms. Wang Tianwa Tried

Ms. Guo Xuhong, 46, and Ms. Wang Tianwa, 24, have been detained for more than three months. They were tried at the Shenyang No. 1 Detention Center on February 27, 2018. Only one of Ms. Guo's and Ms. Wang's family members were allowed to attend their trials.

Neither practitioner signed the trial record, and no verdict was announced in court.

17. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zu Chao and His Wife Ms. Liu Ruiyu’s Cases Submitted to Court

Mr. Zu Chao and his wife Ms. Liu Ruiyu from Chaoyang City, Liaoing Province were arrested in Cixi City, Zhejiang Province on September 7, 2017. Their arrests were approved on October 7.

Their cases were submitted to the Cixi Procuratorate on December 12, and passed to the Yuyao City Procuratorate eight days later. They were then submitted to the Yuyao Court.
