(Minghui.org) Ms. Qi Yanhui was sentenced to three years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

The Jilin City resident was arrested along with four other Falun Gong practitioners on August 10, 2017. All five were given 15 days of detention, but only two were released on August 25. Two other practitioners were released the following day, but Ms. Qi remains detained.

Ms. Qi’s lawyer tried to visit her on September 26, but the Jiaohe City Detention Center demanded to see proof that the lawyer was not a Falun Gong practitioner. The lawyer quit, and Ms. Qi’s family hired a second lawyer that same day. The new lawyer produced proof and was allowed to see her. She said that local procuratorate officials had interrogated her in the detention center.

Ms. Qi’s family hired an additional lawyer to visit her on December 1. The detention center again demanded proof that he was a non-practitioner. The new lawyer protested that his legal right to meet with his client was being violated. The detention center then said they might grant a meeting if police officers accompanied him. He did not get to see Ms. Qi.

It was learned recently that Ms. Qi was admitted to Jilin Province Second Prison on January 18, 2018. Details of her trial and sentencing have yet to be discovered.
