Tortured in Two Labor Camps, Chongqing Woman Is Imprisoned Again for Her Faith

February 18, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Chongqing, China

(Minghui.org) A Chongqing woman was arrested in 2016 for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted in China since 1999. She was tortured at the Yubei District Detention Center for almost two years before being sentenced to four years in prison on December 5, 2017. The details of her trial, sentencing, and health condition remain to be investigated. She is currently incarcerated in Chongqing Women’s Prison (formerly Zouma Prison).

Ms. Huang Zhenglan, 55, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. She went to Beijing in November 2000 to protest the persecution of Falun Gong by the communist regime. As a result, she was arrested and sentenced to four years in prison. Unable to withstand the social and political pressure, her husband divorced her in 2002.

Ms. Huang was arrested again and taken to Maojiashan Women’s Forced Labor Camp in October 2005. She was subjected to sleep deprivation, brainwashing, and physical abuse. She was given unknown drugs that made her shake uncontrollably and caused dizziness and shortness of breath. She was released in August 2006.

Plainclothes officers took Ms. Huang away in September 2007 and started brainwashing her in an attempt to force her to renounce Falun Gong. They put her in a mental hospital and tortured for her 27 days before releasing her in November.

A few days before Chinese New Year in 2009, the police arrested Ms. Huang. She was tortured in a detention center for a month and then given two years in Shimahe Women’s Forced Labor Camp on February 20. She was taken to a mental hospital and administered nerve-damaging drugs for 11 months. She was released in February 2010.
