A Practitioner’s Understanding of Sickness Karma
(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners believe that they have sickness karma, when in fact their so-called sickness is a physical manifestation of their attachments to fame, self-interest, and sentiment in the human world.
Ordinary people in the secular world are subject to the process of birth, aging, sickness, and death. If we take ourselves to be ordinary people, we too will experience illness.
So, the first step a practitioner needs to take to overcome his sickness karma is to conduct himself according to the standard of a cultivator.
I recently met with a practitioner who had been imprisoned several years ago. He's been unable since his release to resolve some ongoing family issues. He thus experienced severe sickness karma, making him unable to clarify the truth.
He later moved in with a local practitioner, where he studied the Fa and practiced the exercises daily. When I spoke to him recently and mentioned his wife's name, who is also a practitioner, I noticed that he still strongly resented her.
He eventually looked within and managed to suppress his resentment. I enlightened to the fact that for him to pass his sickness-karma tribulation, he would need to maintain righteous thoughts and stay firm in his belief in Master and the Fa.
However, a few weeks ago, I ran into him again, and as soon as his wife's name came up, he became overly emotional and talked on and on about his wife and their relationship over the years. Being emotional like this was exhibiting the state of an ordinary person.
Master taught us,
“...then your character has dropped to the human level, at least in those instances.” (“The Sixth Talk,” Zhuan Falun)
I realized while in deep meditation that supernormal abilities reside in a different dimension than sickness karma. As long as one enters tranquil meditation, their sickness karma will be suppressed and moved into a very deep dimension.
In the same way, when a practitioner's main consciousness is on the Fa, their sickness karma will remain far away from them, too.
Therefore, if we truly want to help a fellow practitioner overcome his sickness karma, we must practice solid cultivation and have steadfast belief in the Fa. This is critical for the practitioner with sickness karma.
A practitioner with sickness karma also needs to study the Fa calmly and not dwell on the past, or the pain of his sickness karma. Otherwise, his level will drop to that of an ordinary person and he will be subject to the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death.
A few days ago I ran into an elderly practitioner who was experiencing a bout of sickness karma. She felt dizzy and tired, and therefore could not practice the exercises. I said to her, “Don't view this issue with human thoughts. Just keep reciting the Fa.” In a few days she felt much better!
