Beijing Middle School Teacher Arrested for Passing Out Information about Falun Gong
(Minghui.org) A middle school teacher in Beijing was arrested on December 3, 2018 for passing out calendars containing information about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home without a search warrant.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
As all information networks and media are strictly censored by the communist regime in China, many practitioners turned to grassroots channels to raise awareness about the persecution, despite the serious danger they face in the totalitarian state.
Ms. Chen Yan's 88-year-old mother-in-law fainted upon learning of her arrest and was hospitalized. She kept asking about Ms. Chen as soon as she woke up. As the police never informed the family of Ms. Chen's whereabouts, it took them a week to find that she had been sent to Shijingshan Detention Center.
Ms. Chen, 50, is an award-winning chemistry teacher at the Ninth Middle School in Shijingshan District in Beijing. She is very knowledgeable and her classes are very engaging. Unlike many teachers in China, she turned down gifts from parents who tried to make her pay special attention to their children. She told the parents that she treats every student with equal care and maintains strong rapport with each one of them.
Ms. Chen's family, students, and friends are worried for her safety and call for international attention to secure her immediate release.
