(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 8 provinces. According to this report, 7 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 25 were illegally arrested.

1. [Shanghai] Ms. Qin Yuexiu Detained
Ms. Qin Yuexiu from the Putuo District was arrested by officers from the Changzheng Police Station and the Putuo District Domestic Security Division on August 10, 2017. Her home was ransacked.
Ms. Qin is being held in the Putuo District Detention Center.
2. [Beijing] Mr. Zhang Jiuhai's Case Filed at Court
The Pinggu District Procuratorate sent the case files for prosecuting Mr. Zhang Jiuhai to the Pinggu District Court on August 21, 2017.
3. [Liuhe County, Jilin Province] Mr. Li Zhenxiang Arrested
Mr. Li Zhenxiang was arrested on August 25, 2017.
4. [Dongying City, Shandong Province] Mr. Luan Fenglin Detained
Mr. Luan Fenglin, in his 70s, a retiree from the Shengli Oilfield Production Plant, was arrested at his home by Dong Ning, head of the Binbei Domestic Security Division, and other officers on August 25, 2017. The officers confiscated his Falun Gong books and car.
Mr. Luan was taken to a detention facility in Niuzhuang.
5. [Penglai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yang Shuyu Detained
Ms. Yang Shuyu was reported to the authorities for talking to people about Falun Gong in Hantuan Village on August 22, 2017. She was arrested and taken to the Beigou Town Detention Center.

6. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Chunlan and Ms. Mei Xue Arrested
The homes of Ms. Zhao Chunlan and Ms. Mei Xue were ransacked by officers from the Qingdao Criminal Police Division and the Hongdao Police Station on the afternoon of August 25, 2017. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books and other related materials.
Both practitioners were arrested and taken to the police station. They have since been released.
7. [Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Hou Xiuying Arrested
Ms. Hou Xiuying was arrested by officers from the Gaoguzhuang Town Police Station when she returned home from a farmers market on August 24, 2017. The officers were waiting outside for her to return home.
8. [Quzhou County, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners Detained
Ms. Shi Xiangqin, Ms. Yang Shufang, and Mr. Song Weiping were reported to the authorities for talking to people about Falun Gong and distributing Falun Gong materials in the Jiucheng area of Pingxiang County on August 23, 2017. They were arrested and taken to the Jiucheng Police Station.
The three practitioners were subsequently transferred to the county detention center and detained for 15 days.
9. [Changsha City, Hunan Province] Ms. Li Guoli Taken to Brainwashing Center
Ms. Li Guoli was arrested by officers from the Houjiatang Police Station in the Yuhua District on the morning of August 24, 2017. She was taken to a brainwashing center
10. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced to Prison
The Lishan District Court sentenced Ms. Zhang Guangyuan and Mr. Zhang Weihua each to five-year prison terms, and Mr. Gao Hongbo to a three-year prison term. The three practitioners have appealed.
11. [Bayan County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Luan Liyang Detained
Ms. Luan Liyang was arrested by Luan Hefeng, head of the local 610 Office, and Yu Haiyan, head of the county Domestic Security Division, on August 25, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong in Lalatun Village, Longquan Town.
Ms. Luan was taken to the Yaziquan Detention Center in Harbin City for five days of detention.

12. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Ms. Zeng Jinlian's Appeal Turned Down
Ms. Zeng was arrested on November 23, 2016, for refusing to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. She was tried on April 28, 2017, and sentenced to five years in prison on May 10. She appealed to the Yueyang City Intermediate Court, but the original verdict was upheld without holding a public hearing.
Ms. Zeng was taken to the Hunan Province Women's Prison on August 15.
13. [Tianjin] Ms. Guo Chengru Detained
Ms. Guo Chengru, in her 40s, was arrested on August 25, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She is being held in the Qushuidao Detention Center.
This is not the first time that Ms. Guo has been targeted for her faith. She was taken to a forced labor camp twice for a total of three and a half years, and twice imprisoned for a total of four years.
14. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wang Liang and Mr. Feng Kuanfeng’s Appeal Turned Down
Mr. Wang Liang and Mr. Fang Kuanfeng were arrested in late March 2016 for refusing to renounce their belief in Falun Gong. They were tried on September 20, 2016. Mr. Wang was later sentenced to a seven-and-a-half year prison term. Mr. Fang was sentenced to three years.
The two practitioners appealed, but their appeals were turned down. They are being held in the Ji'nan Prison.
15. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Seven Practitioners Detained
Fifteen Falun Gong practitioners were arrested on February 25, 2017. Eight of them were released within two weeks. The rest are still being detained. They are Ms. Zhang Yanhua, Ms. Wang Yanqiu, Ms. Zhang Chunyu, Mr. Li Peng, Mr. Zhang Guangli, Ms. Feng Yantao and Ms. Wang Zongrong.
Ms. Zhang Yanhua and Ms. Wang Yanqiu were tried on August 23, 2017.
16. [Pingding County, Shanxi Province] Pingding County Court Obstructs Ms. Wang Qiaolan’s Attorney
Ms. Wang Qiaolan was arrested on May 19, 2017. Her attorney went to Pingding County Court to review her case files on August 19, 2017, and tried to photocopy them. However, the court didn’t allow him to do so. The presiding judge said he had to await instructions from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee.
17. [Bozhou City, Anhui Province] Four Practitioners Tried
Ms. Wu Ling, Mr. Li Wenju, Mr. Zhang Mingquan and Mr. Zhang Yajun were arrested in November 2015 for filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party.
The four practitioners were secretly sentenced by the Lixin County Court in 2016. They all appealed to the Bozhou Intermediate’s Court.
The intermediate court revoked the original sentences and returned their cases to the Lixin County Court for a retrial.
Lixin County Court re-tried the four practitioners on August 24 and 25, 2017. Many of their relatives and friends were blocked from attending the trial. Their attorneys pleaded “not guilty” for their clients. No verdict was reached, and another trial was scheduled for September 4.
