(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 22 cities or counties in 12 provinces. According to this report, 10 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 36 were illegally arrested.

Mr. Zhang Youfu was recently sentenced to a four-year prison term. He has been held in the Baiyin Detention Center since his arrest in September 2016.
2. [Tianjin] Ms. Kang Jingshu Detained
Ms. Kang Jingshu was arrested and taken to the Shanghanglu Police Station on July 24, 2017, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She is being held in the Hedong Detention Center.

3. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Li Jingbo Detained
Ms. Li Jingbo has been held in the Yaojia Detention Center since her arrest on June 11, 2017. She has developed high blood pressure and has had problems with her vision since being held. She was once hospitalized for five days.
4. [Yanji City, Jilin Province] Ms. Xiao Xiu and Ms. Li Ama Arrested
Ms. Xiao Xiu and Ms. Li Ama were arrested by officers from the Xinxing Police Station on July 22, 2017, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Xiao was released. Ms. Li's whereabouts are unknown.

5. [Qishan County, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Zhu Xiuping's Whereabouts Unknown
Ms. Zhu Xiuping was followed by a police car when she was seen distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 2017. Her whereabouts are unknown.
6. [Gaobeidian City, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners Arrested
Ms. Wang Yuying, Ms. Zhang Bianrong, and Ms. Miao Surong were arrested on May 5, 2017. They were held at the Gaoqiao Police Station for three hours, before being taken to the Gaobeidian City Police Department.
Ms. Zhang was held at the Gaobeidian Detention Center for 15 days. Ms. Wang and Ms. Miao were released after being forced to pay 5,000 yuan each and to write a guarantee statement not to practice Falun Gong again.
7. [Beijing] Mr. Wang Lianyi Detained
Mr. Wang Lianyi was detained when he went to the local police station to request the release of his wife on July 19, 2017.
8. [Xian City, Shaanxi Province] Mr. Chen Mingan Severely Persecuted
Mr. Chen Mingan's family went to visit him in Weinan Prison on July 24, 2017. He was emaciated, sick, and had difficulty walking. He was also closely monitored by prison guards and inmates.
Mr. Chen's family requested that he be given medical treatment, but nothing came of it.
9. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Six Practitioners Arrested
Mr. Yang Xiuchang and five other practitioners were arrested by officers from Changyi Domestic Security Division while at practitioner Sun's home on March 30, 2017.
The police ransacked the place and confiscated Falun Gong books, materials about the persecution of Falun Gong, and other items. Mr. Yang managed to escape from the police and returned home at around 1:00 a.m..
10. [Tianjin] Ms. Liu Jialing Detained
Ms. Liu Jialing was arrested on July 21, 2017, and is being held in the Jinghai Detention Center.
11. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Mr. Wu Zhimin Taken to Brainwashing Center
Mr. Wu Zhimin was arrested on July 19, 2017. The head of the Tongcheng County Domestic Security Division Hu Longbing took him to the Banqiao Brainwashing Center.
12. [Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province] Ms. Zhan Fengli's Whereabouts Unknown
Ms. Zhan Fengli was arrested by officers from the domestic security division in early July 2017. Her whereabouts are unknown.
13. [Tianjin] Ms. Yu Qingping Arrested
Ms. Yu Qingping was arrested by plainclothes officers from the Tiedonglu Police Station on July 25, 2017, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police confiscated related informational materials.
14. [Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Lin Yongxu and Ms. Li Sujuan Detained
Mr. Lin Yongxu and Ms. Li Sujuan were detained at the Sanshui Brainwashing Center. They were transferred to the Zhuhai City No. 1 Detention Center by officers from the Zhuhai Domestic Security Division on July 21, 2017.
15. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Yang Donglian's Whereabouts Unknown
Ms. Yang Donglian was arrested on July 21, 2017, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Her whereabouts are unknown.
16. [You County, Hunan Province] Mr. Hu Wenkui Tortured in Prison
Mr. Hu Wenkui was arrested on April 12, 2015, while distributing Falun Gong materials. He was sentenced to a three-year prison term.
Mr. Hu was taken to the Wangling Prison, where he was subjected to various forms of torture. He was once forced to sit on the floor with his legs stretched out to the front and back. The pain was so excruciating that he kept screaming.
He was also deprived of sleep for extended periods of time. Whenever he dozed off, he was poked in the eyes with toothpicks. He was later put in a small cage. During the winter, he was forced to stand in a pool of cold water up to his mid-calf.
17. [Mengyin City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yi Shuling Tortured in Prison
Ms. Yi Shuling, a 47-year-old middle school teacher, was arrested on July 18, 2014. She was sentenced to a three-and-a-half year prison term on September 29, 2014.
Her father and sister were denied visits while she was held in the detention center. Details of her trial were concealed, but as soon as her family found out that she had been transferred to a prison, they immediately went there to visit her, only to be turned away.
Ms. Yi's family received a notice from prison authorities months later, stating that Ms. Yi was in critical condition. They went to the prison on November 19, 2014, to find that Ms. Yi was emaciated and her legs were tied to a bed. She also had blisters in her mouth.
Ms. Yi did not respond when her sister spoke to her.
The guards revealed that Ms. Yi had been tortured in prison for refusing to give up her belief. She was rushed to the prison hospital where she was force-fed and given injections.
Ms. Yi's family was instructed to visit an agency in Jinan to process paperwork for her medical parole. The family could not afford to pay the large fine, and did not want to sign their documents, as that would mean they could not pursue legal action against the prison.
Ms. Yi remains in prison where she is subjected to further mistreatment.
18. [Gaoyang County, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Dongmei Facing Indictment
Ms. Liu Dongmei, a teacher, was reported to the authorities for telling her students about Falun Gong. She was arrested on March 31, 2017.
Ms. Liu told the students about the benefits of the practice - uplifting people's morals and improving ones character.
She shared her own experience of practicing Falun Gong with the officers who interrogated her. The officers said the law enforcement is an “agency of violence” and the “police are their tools.”
Ms. Liu's home was ransacked a few days after her arrest. Her case is now with the Gaoyang County Procuratorate.
19. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced
Ms. Li Guihua, Ms. Li Guiying, and Ms. Ma Xiurong were arrested on October 25, 2016. They were taken to the Changchun Women's Prison on July 13, 2017. The practitioners were sentenced to five years, four years, and two years respectively.
Ms. Li Guiying's and Ms. Ma's families visited them soon after they were taken to prison. Practitioners are only allowed a 20-minute meeting with families every Monday.
Ms. Li and Ms. Ma's family members also found out that the money they had deposited to the commissary accounts at the local detention center for the practitioners to spend on necessities in the detention center were not received by their loved ones.
When the families went to the detention center to inquire about the missing funds, the guards told them that there was no record of the money being received.
20. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Twelve Practitioners Indicted
Mr. Gong Wenyi, Shi Xiangyun, Bao Yi, Jia Yanling, Kong Qingyan, Liu Jun, Zhang Shuxia, Wu Xi, Zhu Fengying, Zhao Xiru, Yang Qiji, Wei Xuwang, and Ms. Ren Xiuying were arrested over the course of two days between January 18-19, 2017.
Ms. Ren was released on the same day of her arrest, but was arrested again on July 13, 2017.
Mr. Gong Wenyi was later released after he went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
The twelve remaining practitioners were issued with arrest warrants and were indicted on July 17, 2017, by the Songbei Procuratorate.
21. [Donggang City, Liaoning Province] 72-Year Old Mr. Han Jiyun Tortured in Prison
Mr. Han Jiyun, 72, was arrested for handing out informational materials about Falun Gong at the Jixian Market on March 15, 2016. Officers from the Jixian Police Station ransacked his home the same day.
Mr. Han was taken to the Dandong Detention Center. His family was informed on the approval of his arrest on April 4, 2016. He was sentenced to a seven-year prison term in May 2017 at the Donggang Court.
Mr. Han was taken to the Dongling Prison, where he has been tortured.
22. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Qian Chunsen Files Criminal Complaint, then Expelled from CCP
Mr. Qian Chunsen filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party, for instigating the persecution of Falun Gong, in May 2016. He was harassed and threatened repeatedly by officers from the Nanjing Customs, Zhangjiagang Customs, the Nanjing 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division.
Over 20 people broke into Mr. Qian’s office on July 11, 2017. They included the director of the Human Resources of Nanjing Customs Wang Shoujun, the director of the Political and Ideological Work Office Hu Zhengliang, deputy director Yang Zhi, chief of the Zhangjiagang Customs Chen Jieping, and deputy chiefs Guo Xuewen and Yin Juzhi.
An announcement was made in the Nanjing Customs, stating that Mr. Qian had been expelled from the government and the Party. Mr. Qian was then escorted out of the building.
23. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Lun on Hunger Strike
Mr. Li Lun, 42, from Dengta City, was arrested on January 20, 2016, for practicing Falun Gong. He was sentenced to a four-year prison term in the Dengta Court, but appealed to the Liaoyang Intermediate’s Court. His original sentence was upheld.
Mr. Li was taken to the Dongling Prison, and was tortured.
The guards shocked him with electric batons, pricked his genitals with toothpicks, and poured urine down his throat. He was also put in solitary confinement.
Mr. Li went on hunger strike at the end of June. He was very weak.
24. [Yi County, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhao Qiuyun and Ms. Ren Junying Sentenced
A judge from the Yi County Court and a prosecutor from the Yi Procuratorate went to the Baoding Detention Center to announce the verdicts on Ms. Zhao Qiuyun and Ms. Ren Junying on July 17, 2017.
Both practitioners were sentenced to three-year prison terms.
25. [Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Chen Yuli Detained
Mr. Chen Yuli, 29, was arrested by officers from the Doumen District in July 2017, for “destroying public property” of billboards that had posters slandering Falun Gong on them. The police ransacked his home and confiscated his personal belongings.
Mr. Chen is being held in the Doumen Detention Center. His family has not been allowed to visit him and he has been denied bail. The police threatened that they would continue searching for evidence to prosecute him.
