Additional Persecution News from China – June 13, 2017 (12 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 5 provinces. According to this report, 2 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 14 were illegally arrested.

1. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Gao Jinbo Arrested

Mr. Gao Jinbo from Hongguang Farm was arrested by officers from the Baiyilaga Township Police Station on the morning of June 8, 2017 for talking to people about Falun Gong.

2. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Liying Arrested

Ms. Liu Liying from Jiutai District was arrested by officers from the Gongnong Police Station on the evening of June 8, 2017.

3. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Mr. Wu Wenzhang Arrested

Mr. Wu Wenzhang was recently arrested. He had been sentenced to three years in prison and held in the Jidong Prison.

4. [Tianjin] Ms. Yang Chunyan and Mother Ms. Sun Yunxiang Taken to Prison

Ms. Yang Chunyan and her mother Ms. Sun Yunxiang were arrested by officers from the Dongli District Police Department and the 610 Office on the afternoon of March 6, 2016. They were tried at the Dongli Court on January 11, 2017. Ms. Yang was given a three-and-a-half-year prison term and Mr. Sun a three-year prison term. They were taken to the Lingzhuangzi Women's Prison.

5. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhu Naili and Wife Detained

Mr. Zhu Naili was arrested by officers from the Henanjie Police Station on June 8, 2017. Mr. Zhu had filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, former Chinese leader, about one year ago. His home was ransacked. Mr. Zhu was held in the detention center for 10 days. And then he was transferred to criminal detention.

His wife He Yan was arrested on the third day. She was held in the Jilin City Detention Center for five days.

6. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Chengbin and Wife Ms. Mei Shulian Detained

Mr. Liu Chengbin and his wife Ms. Mei Shulian from Shihe Village, Shihe Town, Jinzhou District, were arrested on the afternoon of June 9, 2017. The police confiscated three printers, two cell phones, a desktop computer, a DVD burner, and 20 boxes of paper. Ms. Mei was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center. Mr. Liu was held in the Sanli Detention Center.

7. [Tianjin] Couple Still Detained

Mr. Yang Yuyong and his wife Ms. Meng Xianzhen, both Falun Gong practitioners, were home on December 7, 2016 when police came to arrest them and ransack their residence.

When they learned what happened, the couple's family members rushed over, only to be blocked outside the couple's apartment building. A few family members who were trying to get inside were pepper sprayed. They later filed a complaint against the police but the Wuqing District Procuratorate refused to accept the complaint. They mailed the complaint to the Tianjin City Procuratorate but have not heard any response.

Mr. Yang and Ms. Meng remain at the Wuqing District Detention Center.

8. [Tieling City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Shuxia Sentenced

Ms. Zhang Shuxia, 55, was recently sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhang's sentencing was preceded by her latest and sixth arrest on December 14, 2016 and a cumulative nine years of detention between 1999 and 2013 for her faith.

9. [Jiaozhou City, Shandong Province] Mr. Zhang Congjie Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Congjie was sentenced to 5 years and fined 9,000 yuan on June 6, 2017 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He vows to appeal the illegal sentence, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhang remains at the Ducun Detention Center since his arrest on October 10, 2016. It's not clear when he'll be transferred to prison.

10. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Qu Zeping Tried

Ms. Qu Zeping was tried on June 12, 2017 for distributing information about Falun Gong.

Ms. Qu's lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her and refuted the prosecution evidence.

Ms. Qu was arrested together with three other Falun Gong practitioners on September 28, 2016. The police ransacked the homes of Mr. Du Enmei, 63, Ms. Lin Yanzhen, in her 70s, and Ms. Li Yulan, 56. For some reason, they never searched Ms. Qu's home. The indictment, however, stated that all the items confiscated from the three other practitioners' homes were taken from Ms. Qu's home.

Ms. Qu's lawyer asked how was it possible for his client to be responsible for things confiscated from other people's homes. The prosecutor did not answer.

Ms. Qu also testified in her own defense and said she broke no law by talking to people about Falun Gong.

The judge adjourned the session without issuing a verdict.

11. [Pingdu City, Shandong Province] Mr. Lu Jianguo’s Lawyer Met Him

Mr. Lu Jianguo was arrested on November 2, 2016 and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on March 21, 2017. He filed an appeal on March 31.

Mr. Lu’s lawyer went to meet Judge Wang Ke from Qingdao Intermediate’s Court, who was in charge of Mr. Lu’s case, on May 17, 2017. The judge requested the lawyer to provide defense comments.

Mr. Lu’s lawyer went to Mengcun Detention Center to meet Mr. Lu on the morning of June 7, 2017. The meeting lasted about one hour.

12. [Tianjin] Ms. Zhao Yueqin Tried Again

Ms. Zhao Yueqin was tried three times from 2015 to 2016. She was tried again on June 5, 2017 by the Binhai New District Court.

Ms. Zhao stated the benefits from practicing Falun Gong on the court. Many of her illnesses were gone after she practiced Falun Gong. However, the prosecutor still requested to sentence her to 3 to 7 years’ imprisonment. The judge said the verdict would be given on another day.
