(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Yunqing was arrested and sentenced to four years in Jiazhou Prison in April 2017 for talking to the public about the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party. Mr. Zhao's mother was told to go to the hospital to see him on June 10, 2017, as he was in a critical situation due to the severe torture to which he had been subjected.
Mr. Zhao's mother and other relatives went to the Shuangliu Police Hospital where Mr. Zhao was being treated, but a police guard only allowed Mr. Zhao's mother to see him.
Mr. Zhao had become emaciated and was on an intravenous drip. Mr. Zhao told his mother that he had been severely beaten by the head of inmates until he lost consciousness.
A woman in a white medical coat came and asked Mr. Zhao's mother to pay for his stay in the prison. His mother told her that she couldn't afford to pay, as they had to rely on selling cucumbers and beans to get a little money to pay to visit the hospital.
Mr. Zhao's father later got a chance to see his son. Mr. Zhao's father found that his son’s whole body was covered in bruises. He later borrowed 600 yuan for pay for his son's stay in prison.
Mr. Zhao's parents went to see him on July 3, 2017 but were again forced to pay prison fees, which amounted to 400 yuan this time.
Mr. Zhao is from Pengzhou City in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. He used to suffer from late-stage hemophilia but completely recovered after practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Zhao was arrested with another practitioner, Zhou Yuhua, in September 2015 for talking to people about Falun Gong and the persecution.
Mr. Zhao was sentenced to four years in prison. Zhou Yuhua was sentenced to three and a half years.
Yu Hui, then head of Chengdu City Anti-cult Office (an extra-judicial agency tasked with persecuting Falun Gong), was responsible for ordering the arrest of Mr. Zhao and many other Chengdu practitioners.
