(Minghui.org) After two higher courts and a procuratorate rejected his appeals and complaint regarding a wrongful sentence for his spiritual belief in Falun Gong, Mr. Lü Shangchun's complaint to the Supreme People's Procuratorate was accepted on July 6, 2017.

Mr. Lü's family was told by the institution's staff, however, that they and their lawyer aren't allowed to inquire on the status of the case, nor would any official meet with them to discuss the case. They were told just to wait and they would be given a final decision in four months.

Mr. Lü Shangchun, a Beijing resident, was arrested in September 2014 for using money with information about the persecution of Falun Gong printed on it. He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by Changping District Court on February 13, 2015. He is currently detained at Jinzhong Prison in Jiangxi Province.

Mr. Lü filed the appeal to Beijing No. 1 Intermediate Court on April 24, 2015. The court rejected his appeal on August 3, 2015.

Mr. Lü then filed another appeal to the Higher People's Court of Beijing and it was also rejected on December 12, 2015.

In February 2016, he filed a complaint to Beijing City Procuratorate. He was informed by the procuratorate's staff on April 22, 2016 that his case "was not qualified for acceptance and re-investigation."

He filed another complaint to the Procuratorate, and was informed on November 28, 2016 that they did "not support" his appeal.

He filed a complaint to the Supreme People's Procuratorate on July 6, 2017, and it was accepted.

The prison held a “100-day campaign” aimed at forcing Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith between September and December 2016. Mr. Lü was denied family visits for three months as a result of his resistance to the campaign. The prison continued to deny his rights to call his family after the campaign was over.
