Qiqihar Man Detained for His Faith Brutally Tortured
The client, Mr. Li Shunjiang, was handcuffed and shackled with his hands and feet restrained together. The lawyer wondered how Mr. Li, unable to straighten his back, managed to get to the meeting room.
The guards removed the handcuffs and shackles at the lawyer’s protest. Mr. Li revealed that he was interrogated with torture for a whole night on the day of his arrest, March 21, 2017. The police seized Mr. Li and his wife that day because they both refused to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Yu Gang, a deputy chief of the local police station, cuffed Mr. Li’s hands together and hung him up by the handcuffs. Yu then yanked on Mr. Li, breaking the skin on Mr. Li’s wrists.
Yu removed one of his shoes and used it to strike Mr. Li in the face more than 30 times. Yu then grabbed several heavy objects to hit Mr. Li on the arms and legs. Mr. Li passed out, only to be revived and subjected to another round of beatings.
Unable to bear the pain, Mr. Li gave self-incriminating evidence as Yu demanded. He initially refused to sign the interrogation record but relented when Yu threatened to beat his wife the same way.
Yu proceeded to give Mr. Li’s wife a savage beating anyway.
Mr. Li’s lawyer saw lots of bruises on his client’s arms and legs during the April meeting.
This is not the first time that Mr. Li and his wife have been targeted for their faith. Mr. Li was once imprisoned for 9 years and his wife 3 years.
