Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province: 9 Locals Tried for Their Faith and 6 of Them Convicted
(Minghui.org) Nine women in Jinzhou City were tried by two local courts in recent months for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Six of them have been convicted as of early December.
Taihe District Court sentenced both Ms. Pan Wenjie and Ms. Chen Zaihua to 5 years in prison and Ms. Lu Fengxia to 2 years in prison. The same court also tried Ms. Wang Jianru and Ms. Liu Chuanhua, but no verdicts have been issued.
Xinqu Court sentenced to Ms. Dai Ping 5 years in prison, Ms. Liu Cuimei to 2.5 years in prison, and Ms. Tang Shuyun to 2 years in prison. The same court also tried Ms. Cai Guiyan but has yet to issue a verdict.
Ms. Pan, in her 50s, returned home from her night shift around midnight on March 9, 2017. Even before she got a chance to open the door, two men came out of nowhere and knocked her down. They then broke in to ransack her house. She learned later that they were officers from Taihe District Police Department.
The local procuratorate twice returned her case to the police, but Li Lei, head of the local domestic security office, refused to release her and managed to persuade the procuratorate to indict her. She was tried on November 22 and eventually sentenced to five years in prison.
Ms. Pan was beaten multiple times for doing Falun Gong exercises at Jinzhou Women’s Detention Center. They also forced her to sit on a small bench from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day for four straight days.
Ms. Chen was arrested on June 20, 2017, and tried on November 22. The police body cam video played in court showed clearly how the police arrested her without showing any ID or search warrant, but the judge still convicted her.
Ms. Dai, Ms. Tang, Ms. Liu Cuimei, and Ms. Cai were arrested on March 3, 2017, and remain detained at Jinzhou City Detention Center.
Ms. Dai’s family visited various government agencies trying to seek her release, but they were given the runaround instead. Ms. Dai’s lawyer was twice denied visits with his client before eventually meeting with Ms. Dai.
Ms. Dai, Ms. Tang, Ms. Liu, and Ms. Cai were tried together on August 3. The first three women were convicted several months later.
