(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Chengfang from Dazhu County, Dazhou City, was sentenced to a three-year prison term and fined 4,000 yuan for refusing to renounce her belief in Falun Gong.
Ms. Li, in her 50s, was arrested at home on December 9, 2016. Her husband and Mr. Qiu Daming and his wife Ms. Wu Fengqiong, who were visiting at the time, were also taken into custody.
Mr. Qiu and Ms. Li's husband were released shortly afterward, but Ms. Li and Ms. Wu remained in custody.
Ms. Li was taken to the Dazhou City Detention Center, while Ms. Wu was taken to the Dazhu County Detention Center.
Ms. Li was tried in the Dazhu Court on July 21, 2017, where her lawyer defended her constitutional right to freedom of belief. The presiding judge adjourned the hearing without reaching a verdict.
Ms. Li's husband learned two months later that she had been sentenced to prison.
Cash and bank cards that the police confiscated during the home raid haven't been returned, and the judge also fined Ms. Li 4,000 yuan.
