(Minghui.org) A healthy woman in Jinan City was almost committed to a mental hospital after she was arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Though Ms. Miao Peihua, an acupuncturist, thwarted the attempt by police officers, this episode brought back chilling memories of what happened to her in 2011. That year, she was taken straight to a brainwashing center after serving almost two years of forced labor for refusing to renounce her faith.

The brainwashing center later moved her to a mental hospital, where she was given unknown pills three times and shocked with electric needles twice each day. In no time, her speech slurred, her mind went blank, and her face became deformed. She couldn’t stop twitching.

Ms. Miao’s latest arrest took place on June 9, 2015, and she remains captive at Jinan City Detention Center. She told her family of how the police spent months plotting to send her to mental hospital again.

December 18, 2015

Two officers from Huaiyin District Police Department came to the detention center to draw her blood that day. Ms. Miao remembers clearly that one officer was surnamed Shi.

They claimed that the police had forgotten to take her blood sample when she was first arrested in June of last year. Ms. Miao was suspicious but couldn’t figure out what the authorities wanted to do with her.

Days Later

Not long afterward, Ms. Miao overheard one guard telling another guard, “Miao Peihua has a history of mental illness. The higher-ups decided to extend her detention to December 2016.”

Ms. Miao, however, was never formally informed of the term extension.

February 2016

Officer Wei Junhua from Xingfu Police Station came to interview Ms. Miao’s cellmates. He asked if she behaved abnormally. The cellmates responded that she was a kind person and that there was nothing out of ordinary about her.

Upon learning of the interview from her cellmates, Ms. Miao wrote six letters to the authorities, warning them that “it is a crime to label a healthy person like me mentally disordered and use it as an excuse to keep her in long-term detention.”

The letter recipients included Han Baoyan, deputy chief of Xingfu Police Station, and Guo Baoqing from Huaiyin District Procuratorate.

Han Baoyan and Wang, another deputy chief of Xingfu Police Station, officer Wei Junhua, and two agents from the local 610 Office took Ms. Miao out of the detention center that day. They drove her to a local mental hospital to have an evaluation done.

Ms. Miao knew they were trying to “diagnose her with mental illness” so as to commit her to a mental hospital. She refused to get out of the police cruiser, but chief Wang yanked her handcuffs and dragged her outside.

Three doctors awaited her arrival. Ms. Miao detailed what she went through over the years for practicing Falun Gong. She also told the doctors her last harrowing mental hospital experience.

After she finished, the doctors signaled for her to leave. Chief Wang asked, “But you haven’t really evaluated her yet!” One doctor replied, “She is very clearheaded.”

Ms. Miao said she was happy that the doctors followed medical ethics, but she and her family worry what the police may do next.
