(Minghui.org) A Shanghai woman is facing indictment for her faith, and the authorities are threatening to sentence her to 3-5 years. They have also refused to grant her medical parole, despite the fact she tested positive for Hepatitis B and is suffering from iodine deficiency disorders.
Ms. Qiu Xiaomin was seized from home on April 28 of this year for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. She was formally arrested on June 3 and had her case forwarded to Jing’an District Procuratorate on July 25.
This is not the first time that the 63-year-old woman was targeted for her faith. She had been arrested multiple times, and was once given 2 years of forced labor in the past.
Ms. Qiu used to suffer from liver cirrhosis and ascites, but her symptoms subsided during the past 19 years of her practice of Falun Gong. Now that she is no longer allowed to do Falun Gong exercises while in detention, her family worries that she might have a relapse of her past ailments.
Her family strongly requested that she be given a medical examination, and the detention center relented. Ms. Qiu’s Hepatitis B virus tests returned positive results on three measurements, HBsAg, HBeAg, and anti-HBc. She was also diagnosed with iodine deficient disorders.
The detention center, however, refused to release her on medical parole or render her proper treatment. Her family is now extremely concerned about her well-being.
