(Minghui.org) Mr. Teng Shijun (滕世军), from Tumen, Jilin Province, was arrested at his residence on the afternoon of May 12, 2016. Many valuables were confiscated from his home, including 20,000 yuan in cash.

Mr. Teng Shijun

This was not the first time that Mr. Teng had been arrested. In the past, he was arrested multiple times, detained and sent to a brainwashing center three times.

He was also sentenced to a labor camp twice, and was subjected to brutal torture simply because he refused to renounce his belief in Falun Gong. He was also fired from his job at an oil refinery company.

To escape further harassment, he was forced to leave his home and live on the streets after his latest release from the labor camp in 2008. Eight years later, he was arrested once again. He is currently out on bail due to high blood pressure.

Details of Recent Arrest

Mr. Teng was at his residence on May 12, 2016 when police from the Longtan District police station came knocking at his door. Upon opening it, the police walked in and pinned him to the ground. They handcuffed him to the bed and knocked his glasses to the floor.

He tried to explain the facts about Falun Gong to them while they raided his house. The police refused to listen and gagged him with one of the socks he was wearing.

The police took away all the items in the room, including multiple cell phones, network set-top boxes, old computer machines, a printer, a camera, a set of tools, and Falun Gong books. They also confiscated 20,000 yuan in cash.

Mr. Teng's head was covered with a bag when he was taken away. It was raining outside and he had no coat or shoes on.

Upon reaching the police station, his hands were handcuffed behind his back and tied to a metal chair. He was interrogated, but he refused to answer the police's questions.

The next day, he was taken to another police station and locked in a metal cage. When he still refused to answer any questions, he was taken to the Shulan brainwashing center.

On the third day, May 14, two people came and told him to cooperate with them so that a lighter sentence will be given to him. He rejected the offer, and tried persuading them not to be involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

From May 16 to 23, a man administered brainwashing sessions to him every day. On the afternoon of May 23, he was given a detention slip and asked to sign it. Mr. Teng refused to comply and was taken to the hospital for a medical examination. The result showed that his blood pressure was extremely high.

After the examination, he was taken to the Jilin Detention Center, but the center refused to accept him due to his high blood pressure. The police had no choice but to bring him back to the police station.

The police allowed him to return home if he would provide his family details. Instead, Mr. Teng requested that his house keys be returned to him.

Mr. Teng was then sent home. However, the money confiscated from his home was deemed to be bail and not returned to him.

Multiple Arrests and Detentions

After the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 20, 1999, Mr. Teng was asked by his company leaders to renounce his belief. He refused and was expelled from his CCP membership.

Four months later, he was fired from his job for continuing with the practice.

In that same year, he went to Beijing to appeal and was taken back to his hometown and handed over to the security department of his former employer.

He was sent to a brainwashing center located in the hills and had to pay 50 yuan a day for food expenses. He was subjected to corporal punishment such as standing for extended periods of time and sleep deprivation. He was also forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong.

The punishment did not dissuade him from his beliefs.

He was then transferred to another room. His hands were handcuffed behind his back while inmates hit his legs with a rubber club.

He was released 15 days later.

The next arrest came one year later, when his former employer deceived his family into sending him to a brainwashing center. He was detained for 15 days. He spent the eve of Chinese New Year in the detention center after he was arrested again just 15 days after his previous release.

On November 20, 2001, Mr. Teng went to Beijing to appeal and was sent to Jiutai forced labor camp for one year. He was stripped of his clothes and handcuffed to the bed. The police shocked his jaws, chest, nipples and armpits with an electric baton. At the same time, cold water was splashed on him.

The torture caused him to be unable to walk properly and he began to lose weight. He was released on December 21, 2003.

He began doing the Falun Gong exercises after his release and recovered quickly. He later found a job as a milkman, but was often harassed by officers from the 610 office and police station.

Almost one year after his release, he was arrested by the police on October 25, 2004 while on his way to deliver milk.

He was sent to a brainwashing facility, where four inmates were assigned to “transform” him. He managed to escape and stayed away from home to avoid arrest.

Mr. Teng was arrested when he went to the Civil Affairs Bureau on August 16, 2005 to attend to some personal matters. He was later sentenced to three years of forced labor camp.

At the labor camp, two inmates monitored him closely, and would freeze him and deprive him of sleep for up to 24 hours. They also handcuffed him to the bed.

At the labor camp, a bag was put over his head to suffocate him, while four people hit him with wooden planks. They later stripped him of all his clothes and splashed him with cold water for more than one hour in the middle of winter.

Brief Summary of Mr. Teng's Background

Mr. Teng, 48, had Guillain-Barré syndrome (muscle weakness caused by the immune system damaging the nervous system) at the age of 16. He tried many qigong practices, but none could cure his illness.

In May 1996, he was introduced to Falun Gong and started practicing it. He recovered completely from the illness one month later. Falun Gong had turned him into a healthy person.
