(Minghui.org) Over the years, Ms. Hua has tried to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to her cousin, the chief of the local police department, without success.

He was diagnosed last October with end-stage cancer. Ms. Hua anxiously asked me for help.

I prepared some truth-clarification materials and asked another practitioner, Ms. Yan, who was very skilled in doing truth clarification, to come with us.

The police chief lived about 100 miles away. We set out the next morning.

He lived in an elegantly decorated two-story house. When we arrived, Ms. Hua introduced us and began to tell her cousin some basic information about Falun Gong. He interrupted her immediately and tried to change the topic.

He would not look at us, was rude and obnoxious, and continually interrupted his cousin. He could not stop talking about his “glorious achievements.” We began sending forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the factors that prevented him from listening to us.

Ms. Yan apologized to him. “I’m sorry to interrupt you. We are all very impressed with your accomplishments.”

Then she brought up the facts of the self-immolation hoax.

He stopped her right away. “I’ve heard this story many times. I don't care. I’ve worked in the police department all my life. I executed more than 100 people and have done many autopsies. I have nothing to fear. I've had a good life, and I have everything anyone could want. If I die—so be it.”

I stood back and listened. Ms. Hua’s cousin seemed obsessed with power and personal gain. His belief in atheism made him think that everything is over when one dies.

He was in his early fifties, and he clearly had a strong desire to live. He was treated in the best hospitals inside and outside of China, and used the finest medication to extend his life. According to him, the best oncology drug cost 20,000 yuan per dose, and his savings were diminishing.

I thought it was the right time to speak. “It looks like you want to be a good leader and to accomplish more. I hope no one will try to take you down for corruption.”

He stared at me in surprise, perhaps taken aback that I had brought up such a sensitive topic.

“A good administrator first of all has to clearly distinguish good from evil, or else he might not know why he was brought down,” I said.

He did not interrupt this time. “Take a good look at the current anti-corruption campaign,” I said. “Many high-level officials—Wang Lijun, Bo Xilai, Li Dongsheng, Zhou Yongkang, Xu Caihou—were all taken down by corruption. But, if you look more closely, you’ll find a correlation of their downfall with their active persecution of Falun Gong.”

I now had his full attention. “You know the labor camp system was abolished, and that act was acknowledged by the international community,” I said. “You also know very well that labor camps were the front line in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

“When Li Dongsheng was arrested, it was revealed that his first prominent position was as a director of the 610 Office,” I said, referring to the organization established by the Communist Party leadership to persecute Falun Gong.

“Since last May, over 200,000 cases have been filed against Jiang Zemin, who launched the persecution.”

The chief said, “There were several young men in our department and in the Domestic Security Division who have been diagnosed with cancer. Some of them passed away.”

He was now visibly relaxed and no longer rejected what Ms. Hua and Ms. Yan said. He eventually agreed to quit the Chinese Communist Party and its youth organizations, and agreed to protect Falun Gong practitioners to the best of his ability.

On our way home, we talked about the key points when clarifying the truth to people in the legal system:

1. Do not view them as a special group, but treat them as any other sentient being.2. Make the best use of information regarding the current regime to untie their knots, as well as any new policies or current events.3. We are the messengers. We must do this with due seriousness and diligence. We cannot expect anything or anyone else to do our job.

This is my current understanding. Kindly point out any shortcomings.
