(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Yuanmei was beaten in Jilin Province Women's Prison for nullifying her statement renouncing Falun Gong, which she had made under duress. She suffered a mental collapse afterward.
Ms. Li, 62, is a retired road maintenance worker of the Jian Road Bureau. She was arrested on August 10, 2013 by officers from the Huadian Police Station when she distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and the persecution by the Chinese communist regime. She was sentenced to three years in prison by Ji'an City Court and taken to Jilin Province Women's Prison on December 4, 2013.
On January 6, 2016, after Ms. Li declared invalid her previous “guarantee statement” (written under duress) to give up Falun Gong, Ni Xiaohong, head of No. 8 Ward, locked Ms. Li in a solitary cell. Ni ordered five inmates, including the convicted murderer Li Minghua, to beat Mr. Li. The sound of beating, scolding, and crying could be heard far away. Eventually, Ms Li suffered a mental collapse.
Ms. Li's husband received a phone call from the prison around January 24, 2016. He was told that Ms. Li had become “overexcited” after learning about her six-month early release. He was told that she could not sleep for several days, and that her mind was disturbed. They then asked her husband for permission to give her medication. Her husband faxed a medical consent form to the prison. However, when the family went to pick up Ms. Li on January 29, she could not recognize them.
She did not remember much and seemed confused. Her limbs were weak, and she was unable to tend to her basic needs, such as eating and going to the restroom.
With support from her family, Ms. Li is now able to take care of herself. However, she is still not mentally clear and remembers only a little bit of the past. She only knows she took some pills at the prison and had high blood pressure.
There are still around 100 practitioners detained in No. 8 Ward at Jilin Woman's Prison. Ni Xiaohong has specially assigned convicted murderers to beat Falun Gong practitioners.
Li Minghua, who has been detained for 11 years, has been involved in abusing practitioners for a long time. Other inmates include Yu Xuewei, a lifetime prisoner in the No. 2 Ward; Li Xiaowei, with a 12-year prison term in the No. 3 Ward; and Hua Yuru, who has a 11-year prison term in the No. 4 Ward.
