(Minghui.org) An elderly father from Anshan City was devastated upon learning that the local higher court had upheld his daughter's three-year prison sentence for refusing to give up her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Sun Jinjun had been repeatedly detained for her faith. She developed schizophrenia 15 years ago as a result of being abused at a labor camp, and had a relapse following her latest arrest on July 21, 2014. Though unfit to stand trial, she was nonetheless tried and sentenced to a three-year prison term last December.
Her older sister Ms. Sun Yuhua, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was beaten to death while imprisoned for her faith in 2003.
Their father, who is in his eighties, cried, “I already lost one daughter, I don't want to lose another one!”

Judge's Flip-flop on Ms. Sun's Appeal
The father and his middle daughter visited Anshan Intermediate Court on March 28 of this year. They had learned from the defense lawyer the day before that Ms. Sun was in serious condition, and Judge Shan Yadong indicated the appeal hearing would be put off.
Ms. Sun's father and sister were very concerned about her health, and eager to get her released on medical parole. Judge Shan, however, denied their parole request and informed them that he had decided to uphold the original sentence.
The father and daughter couldn't understand why the judge backpedaled on what he told the lawyer, who got the impression that an appeal hearing would be held when Ms. Sun's health improved.
Shan refused to offer any explanation or provide a copy of the verdict to Ms. Sun's father and sister.
With one daughter deceased and another one incarcerated, the elderly man holds former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin responsible for his pain. He mailed out his criminal complaint against Jiang several months ago.
