(Minghui.org) Once healthy, Mr. Wu Guangjun was left incapacitated after six years of torture and abuse for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime.
Mr. Wu, who is from Horqin Right Middle Banner, Inner Mongolia, was released from prison on April 6, 2016. His family was saddened to see that he has lost his mobility, is incontinent, and is totally unable to care for himself.
Mr. Wu, his wife, and their two sons all practice Falun Gong. The entire family was arrested on April 3, 2010. Though the youngest family member, then 19, was released a day later, his older brother was sentenced to three years in prison and his parents to six years each for refusing to give up their faith.
It is unclear if Mr. Wu's wife is still being held in Hohhot Women's Prison.
Mr. Wu's older son, Mr. Wu Shuai, suffered various forms of abuse at the local detention center and later in the prison. Several inmates inserted cigarettes into the young man's nostrils when he refused to smoke, and tormentors beat him for refusing to badmouth the founder of Falun Gong.
The then-21-year-old cried out from the beatings, which only invited more kicks and punches.
Another time the prison guards tried to make him watch pornography, and they roughed him up when he refused to comply.
The older Mr. Wu's suffering began shortly after his arrest. He sustained such bad injuries from torture that he spent 28 days in the hospital.
After he was transferred to prison, the guards struck his head with a club, and he passed out numerous times. His face was swollen and distorted. A CT scan showed that his brain had hemorrhaged.
Mr. Wu refused to wear the prison uniform or do the forced labor, so the guards withheld the clothes his family sent to him. All he could do in the winter was wrap himself in a bed sheet.
Over the last six years, the prison authorities have tried all sorts of ways to try to “transform” him, but nothing has worked. The torture and beatings continued--the last two times taking place on November 16, 2015, and on January 26, 2016.
Despite the torture, Mr. Wu remained resolute in his faith.
On the morning of Mr. Wu's release date, the prison authorities made a last ditch effort to force him to sign a “transformation” document before his release. He refused, even though they threatened to continue holding him. They eventually let him go without his signature.
