(Minghui.org) A Falun Dafa practitioner had a very supportive husband and they had a harmonious marriage life. However her husband died in a work related accident, and the practitioner almost quit her cultivation because of her emotional attachment to her husband.
Another practitioner was in deep sorrow because she lost her son who died of illness. This mother experienced sickness karma.
After I heard these two stories I remembered that we need to look inward for why the accident or illness happened to our family members.
Whether it is the harmonious relationship between the couple or the love between mother and son, they are all human emotions that arise from sentimentality. Being a practitioner, a harmonious family is expected and normal. However, we must not forget that we are practitioners, and that all human emotions must be given up.
If we take the emotion too seriously, are we not giving the old forces an excuse to interfere? Cultivation practice is a serious commitment.
Master said,
“If you face death today—regardless of what form of death—and are completely fearless, if you aren’t concerned about it whatsoever and think, “Perhaps I’ll go to Heaven after I die,” then death will truly no longer take place. The key is a person’s mind. Our Dafa cultivation aims exactly at one’s mind—to cultivate is to cultivate the human mind. If your mind doesn’t change everything else you do means nothing. Outward acts mean nothing.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Europe”)
When it comes to a fellow practitioner, no matter how well she or he appears to have cultivated, we must not develop any human notion toward that practitioner who is facing a tribulation. Otherwise, the old forces will use the same excuse to interfere and add tribulations to that practitioner.
Our ultimate purpose of cultivation practice is to return to our true home, and not the enjoyment and love of a family or a harmonious relationship in this human world. In my understanding, we must not let appearance blind our wisdom and we must truly be responsible for our cultivation and Fa-validation.
