Ms. Sun Yanhuan Arrested and Family Member Denied Visitation Rights

(Minghui.org) Ms. Sun Yanhuan (孙艳环), 57, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, and two fellow practitioners were on their way to pay Ms. Sun's electricity bills on December 24, 2015 when they were accosted by police.

When they opened Ms. Sun's car door, a dozen plainclothes police rushed out of their cars and arrested them. The officers refused to show any identification, and did not respond when asked for it.

The three practitioners were put into three separate cars and their bags were taken away. They were taken to the Jianguolu police station and interrogated separately. The two practitioners were released that night.

Administrative Detention

As soon as Ms. Sun's late husband's brother, her only relative in the same city, heard about the arrest, he rushed to the police station and was handed an administrative detention receipt, which showed that Ms. Sun would be detained for 15 days.

Ms. Sun's brother-in-law went to the detention center four days later, on Monday, December 28, 2015, to visit her, but was denied with the excuse that it was not a visiting day.

Then, he went back the next day and was told that she was transferred to the police station. He rushed to the station, but was not allowed to see her. One officer conceded that he could bring food and clothes. He managed to see a glimpse of Ms. Sun before he was chased out, but his next two attempts to visit her were in vain.

He went to the police station on January 8, 2016 to take his sister-in-law home, as the 15 days of administrative detention was up. He was told that Ms. Sun was taken away by police officers. He could not find out any further information no matter how hard he tried. However he was told to leave his contact details and that he would be contacted.

The next day he was asked to go to the police station, where he was given a criminal detention ticket which stated that Ms. Sun was put under criminal detention on January 7, 2016. Additionally, he found out that police had impounded her car. She is now being held in the Jiamusi City detention center.

During a 30-minute talk with officers, he was questioned about the two people who had accompanied him to the police station. They wanted to know if they practiced Falun Gong. He was told that his previous attempts to visit Ms. Sun were denied because the two people had accompanied him. The officers requested that he “cooperate well”, so that Ms. Sun could be released on bail.
