Additional Persecution News from China – January 27, 2016 (28 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 23 cities or counties in 15 provinces. According to this report, 12 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, at least 32 were illegally arrested, and the whereabouts of 1 are unknown. Several practitioners seeking to mail letters of complaint regarding Jiang Zemin to the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Supreme Court have met with obstacles.

1. [Bobai County, Guangxi] Three Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Pang Hongwei, Ms. Pang Guolan, and Ms. Peng Zuying were arrested by Huang Shaowen and other officers from the Bobai County Police Department on January 13, 2016. They were taken to the Chengdong Police Station for interrogation. Officers took their fingerprints and photos. Ms. Pang Hongwei was detained in the Bobai County Detention Center for seven days.

2. [Fuyang City, Zhejiang Province] Ms. Hua Guoxiang Emaciated

Ms. Hua Guoxiang, 62, was arrested by officers from the Fuyang City Domestic Security Division on November 3, 2015. She was sentenced to a three-year prison term.

She was taken to the Hangzhou Women's Prison on December 1, 2015. Her family found her to be emaciated during a visit on January 24, 2016.

3. [Yangquan City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Yang Layu Arrested

Ms. Yang Layu was arrested and taken to the Yangquan Detention Center by officers from the Shangzhan Police Station on January 25, 2016.

4. [Tianjin] Ms. Zhang Shumin and Mr. Lu Zaizhi Arrested for Suing Jiang Zemin

Ms. Zhang Shumin and her husband Mr. Lu Zaizhi were arrested by officers from the Dajianglu Police Station, Hebei District, on January 25, 2016, after filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin.

5. [Tianjin] Mr. Zhang Feng Arrested

Mr. Zhang Feng was arrested at home, and his home was ransacked on January 25, 2016. He was taken to the Nanjiang Police Department.

6. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Ni Naiyi Detained for Suing Jiang Zemin

Ms. Ni Naiyi was arrested at her workplace by officers from the Kaifa District 610 Office and Haiqing Police Station on January 25, 2016, after filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin. She was detained in Haiqing Police Station and released that day.

7. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Fan Jinhua, 61, Ms. Liu Liyuan, 74, and Ms. Geng Shufen, 68, were arrested by police officers from the Zhanqian Police Station on January 22, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police searched them and confiscated informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong and two cell phones. Ms. Liu, the eldest among them was released that day. Ms. Fan and Ms. Geng were detained for 10 days.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Wen Detained

Ms. Wang Wen is detained in the Changchun City No. 2 Detention Center.

9. [Yingkou City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Han Guohai and Mr. Sun Yubin Detained

Mr. Han Guohai and Mr. Sun Yubin were arrested by Mu Dejiang and other officers from the Gaizhou City Domestic Security Division on January 26, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They are detained in the Gaizhou City Domestic Security Division.

10. [Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Huang Ling Detained

Ms. Huang Ling, 60, was arrested in late November 2014, for distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained in the Jianyang Detention Center.

She was given three years in Chengdu Women's Prison on June 21, 2015.

11. [Taian City, Shandong Province] Mr. Cao Yuguang and Ms. Li Qin Sentenced

Mr. Cao Yuguang and his wife Ms. Li Qin were tried by the Xintai City Court on December 22, 2015. They were each sentenced to 10 years in prison on January 25, 2016.

12. [Beijing] Three Practitioners Sentenced

Mr. Wang Jianfu, Ms. Jia Fengzhi and Mr. Ma Zhanquan were sentenced on November 21, 2015. Mr. Wang appealed and the Beijing Intermediate Court upheld the original seven-and-a-half year prison term. He was taken to the Beijing No. 2 Prison on January 19, 2016. Ms. Jia and Mr. Ma are still detained in the Pinggu District Detention Center.

13. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Mr. Ge Xiaolei and Mr. Fan Rui Detained

Mr. Ge Xiaolei and Mr. Fan Rui were arrested on January 26, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They are detained by the Domestic Security Division.

14. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Huo Juan's Whereabouts Unknown

Ms. Huo Juan, 49, was arrested by officers from the Xiuyuejie Police Station on January 25, 2016. The police ransacked her home. Her whereabouts are unknown.

15. [Hezuo City, Gansu Province] Ms. Sun Bingyu Arrested

Ms. Sun Bingyu was arrested on the way to her workplace by officers from the Hezuo City Police Department on January 20, 2016.

16. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Dong Fenghong Arrested

Ms. Dong Fenghong was arrested by officers from the Lijiahu Town Police Station on January 26, 2016, for distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home. However, it is now known what, if anything, was confiscated.

17. [Baiyin City, Gansu Province] Mr. Yu Youzhen and Three Others Arrested

Mr. Yu Youzhen was arrested at her workplace by officers from the Jingtai County Domestic Security Division and Baiyin City Domestic Security Division on January 26, 2016. His wife and two grandchildren were also arrested.

18. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Three Practitioners Tried

Three women were tried by the Nanshan Court on January 20, 2016 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Four lawyers defended the women's constitutional right to freedom of belief and demanded their acquittal. The judge announced that an additional hearing would be held at a later date.

Ms. Ling Honghua, Ms. Yang Bin, and Ms. Cen Xiaoping were arrested on March 11, 2015 while having lunch at a KFC restaurant. The court twice returned the case to the police, citing insufficient evidence. The police fabricated more evidence and got the court to accept the case against the three practitioners.

Prior to the latest arrest, Ms. Yang was given two years of forced labor in May 2008, and Ms. Cen was sentenced to seven years in August 2005.

Following the March arrest, the local detention center refused to admit Ms. Ling on three occasions, citing tuberculosis symptoms. The police then kept her at a hospital for two days, during which time she was handcuffed, shackled, and brutally beaten. As a result, she sustained severe injuries to her neck.

19. [Huadian City, Jilin Province] Ms. Liu Shuying Tortured

Ms. Liu Shuying was sentenced to a nine-year prison term after her arrest on November 26, 2010. She was subjected to different torture methods since her admission to the Jilin Province Women's Prison on July 5, 2012.

During the first two months of Ms. Liu's imprisonment, the guards forced her to sit on the corner of a small bench, with her hands cuffed to bed rails. The slightest movement resulted in beatings. Ms. Liu had to sit still for up to 17 hours a day with such constraints. The guards sometimes dragged her by her hair to the washroom and threw water over her head.

She was not allowed to use the restroom and had to relieve herself in her pants. The urine dripped into her shoes, soaking her feet. Even today, she still has trouble with the skin on her feet.

The guards did not allow her to change clothes or wash herself.

Then, the guards changed their tactics for two months. They forced her to stand still for long periods of time. She refused to open her eyes to watch propaganda videos attacking Falun Gong. In response, the guards ordered inmates to beat her and pour cold water on her face.

Later the guards switched to other methods. For instance, she was once forced to lie spread-eagle in bed, with her four limbs tied up. The inmates often slapped her face with flyswatters.

20. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Xiaoli Tortured in Prison

Ms. Zhang Xiaoli was ordered to perform forced labor at Liaoning Province Women's Prison.

The 37-year-old was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in 2013 for practicing Falun Gong. She was tortured while imprisoned. The guards ordered her to either stand or squat in fixed positions for long periods of time. If she dozed off, they poured cold water over her. For a period of time, they did not allow her to use the restroom. She went on a hunger strike to protest the abuse. She became mentally disoriented.

According to insiders, she is now forced to make clothes in the prison workshop from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

21. [Nenjiang County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Wang Yanyou Taken to Prison

Mr. Wang Yanyou, a local small business owner, was transferred to Beian Prison on December 18, 2015 to serve a 10-year term for practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Wang was arrested in his shop on December 8, 2014. The police confiscated his printers, computers, and close to 70,000 yuan from his business.

Nenjiang County Court tried Mr. Wang eight months later without informing his family. He filed an appeal after receiving the verdict on September 21, 2015. Heihe City Intermediate Court upheld the original sentence on November 25 and ordered him sent to prison.

Mr. Wang's family demanded return of the cash confiscated by police, but officers refused under various excuses.

22. [Yongxing County, Hunan Province] Mr. Xu Yunyan Sentenced for Suing Jiang Zemin

Mr. Xu Yunyan was arrested on July 10, 2015 after filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his 7-year imprisonment and subsequent torture.

The Yongxing County Court tried him on December 1, 2015 and recently sentenced him to five-and-a-half years in prison.

23. [Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province] Mr. Chen Min'gan Still Detained

Mr. Chen Min'gan was tried on December 11, 2015 after filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin and holding the former Chinese dictator responsible for his wife's death and his years of detention.

Both Mr. Chen and his late wife Ms. Huo Meilian had been repeatedly arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Huo died in 2014, just two days after the police harassed her at home. Mr. Chen, on the other hand, spent a total of 8 years in various facilities for refusing to renounce his faith.

Mr. Chen filed a criminal complaint against Jiang in late May 2015, only to be arrested two months later. The December trial of him concluded with no verdict. It is not clear what legal step is awaiting him.

When his family pressed Judge Yao Huapeng for answers, Judge Yao gave no indication if Mr. Chen is facing another hearing or a guilty verdict. However, the judge told the family that the authorities can detain Mr. Chen for as long as they want.

24. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Wu Zhiping Tried

Ms. Wu Zhiping was tried on January 25, 2016 for refusing to give up her belief in Falun Gong. Both she and her lawyer emphasized that she broke no law by exercising her constitutional right to freedom of belief. The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict.

The 58-year-old woman was last arrested on June 5, 2015, and the local Procuratorate indicted her six months later.

Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Wu had been taken into custody on multiple occasions. In particular, she was sentenced to three years in 2008 and was tortured.

25. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Ms. Pan Lijuan Detained for Suing Jiang Zemin

Ms. Pan Lijuan was arrested after filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin. She has been detained for more than three months. She is in the Pingzhuang Detention Center in Yuanbaoshan District.

Her husband tried to visit her during the three months, but was repeatedly denied. Her two sisters were allowed to visit her once under strict monitoring by guards. Thus, they were unable to obtain any information from her.

26. [Tianjin] Ms. Chen Yuanhua and Ms. Yang Fujing Tried

Ms. Chen Yuanhua, 67, and Ms. Yang Fujing, 57, were tried by the Ninghe District Court on January 26, 2016. An attorney from Beijing defended them and pleaded not guilty.

27. [Meizhou City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Zhu Xiansheng's Arrest Approved

The Meixian District Procuratorate approved Mr. Zhu Xiansheng's arrest on January 16, 2016. His family has hired an attorney. The details are under investigation.

Mr. Zhu and his wife Ms. Li Xiufang were arrested repeatedly because they practice Falun Gong. Police also ransacked their home several times. Mr. Zhu was taken to a labor camp and prison.

28. [Tianjin] Mr. Li Wengang Tried

66-year-old Mr. Li Wengang was tried by the Hongqiao Court on December 29, 2015. His lawyer argued that his client had committed no crime by exercising his constitutional right to freedom of belief, and that Mr. Li caused no harm to any individual or society at large by practicing Falun Gong.

The judge adjourned the session without issuing a verdict.
