(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Dong Guigang was to be tried again on November 1, 2016, by the Zhucheng City Court. The new trial was scheduled after Mr. Dong hired an attorney.

Mr. Dong and his wife Ms. Wang Guimei filed criminal complaints to the Supreme Procuratorate and the Supreme People's Court against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime, in 2015, for initiating the brutal persecution of Falun Gong.

The police got a hold of the complaints and used them as reason for the arrest of the couple on September 15, 2015. They ransacked the couple's home and confiscated a computer, a printer, Falun Gong books, and other personal belongings.

Mr. Dong was held in the Zhucheng Detention Center for 38 days. Ms. Wang was held in the Weifang Detention Center for 30 days.

After their release, agents from the Zhucheng 610 Office went to the couple's home and harassed them on October 25, 2015.

Mr. Dong and Ms. Wang were notified on January 21 that they had been prosecuted, and were ordered to appear before the Procuratorate the next day.

Given that the order was illegal, the couple refused to appear. Thus, officers from the Zhucheng Domestic Security Division and Linjiacun Town Police Station arrested them at home and took them to the Procuratorate on January 21. The procurator interrogated them.

Officers from the Zhucheng Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Dong on June 30 and took him to the Zhucheng Detention Center.

The family asked the local police station for the whereabouts of Mr. Dong and was given the run around. They were told to inquire at the Domestic Security Division, which sent them to the court house. At the court house, they were informed that Mr. Dong would be sentenced in a matter of months.

The family met with Judge Wang Yongtang on September 7. He said that a “management committee” was in charge of the case, and that it had sentenced Mr. Dong on the day of his arrest.

The family hired an attorney, who negotiated with the judge to schedule a retrial for Mr. Dong, which was to be held on November 1, 2016.

Mr. Dong is still held in the detention center.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other members of the Politburo Standing Committee and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Communist regime established an extralegal security organization, the 610 Office, on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows its citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
