(Minghui.org) Sixteen residents in Jilin City, Jilin Province are confirmed to have been sentenced in 2015 for their spiritual belief in Falun Gong.
In addition, ten locals were arrested within a two-month span in 2015 for suing former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. One is awaiting a verdict while the rest are facing trials.
Seven Sentenced Among 34 Arrested Over Two Days in 2013
A total of 34 practitioners from Jilin City were taken into custody over the course of two days in October 2013. Seven of them are now known to have been sentenced.
Ms. Che Pingping, 42, was sentenced to four years.
Mr. Zhu Yujun, 47, was sentenced to five years.
Ms. Ma Chi, 47, was sentenced to two years and ten months.
Mr. Li Dequan, 57, and his brother Mr. Li Dexiang, 52, were sentenced to seven and four years, respectively.
Ms. Deng Xiaobo, 51, was sentenced to three years with five years of probation.
Mr. Wang Zhenguang, 50, was sentenced to three years with four years of probation.
Both Ms. Deng and Mr. Wang are serving probation at home, with the rest serving time in prison.
Nine Other Sentenced Practitioners
In addition to above seven practitioners, nine other Jilin residents were also sentenced, with five serving time in prison and four serving probation at home.
Ms. Jin Guolan and her sister Ms. Jin Guoqin were sentenced to four and five years, respectively. They were arrested on December 2, 2013 while distributing Falun Gong materials.
Ms. Huang Xiuhuan, 54, was sentenced to three and a half years following her arrest on November 14, 2014. She is appealing her sentence.
Ms. Li Xianying was sentenced on October 9, 2015. Her family and lawyers are still trying to find out the details of her verdict, as the trial was held without their knowledge.
Ms. Yang Yongmei was sentenced to two years in October 2015. She is now being held at Guojiacun Women's Prison.
Mr. Jiang Guilin, in his 70s, was arrested on July 11, 2014 and later sentenced to three years with four years of probation. He is now serving the probation at home.
Mr. Han Yongqiang, Ms. Jin Yanhua, and Ms. Liu Ying, all professors at Beihua University, were arrested and had their homes ransacked on August 1, 2014. They were sentenced to probation one year later. As their university had fired them, these professors are relying their families' support to get by.
Ten Arrested in Two Months for Suing Jiang Zemin
Ten Jilin residents were arrested between June and August 2015 for filing lawsuits against Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. One of them has been tried and is awaiting the verdict, while the rest have seen their arrests formally approved and are facing trial.
Ms. Wang Wenjun, in her 60s, was arrested on June 17, 2015 and tried on November 12.
The other arrested include Mr. Xu Chunlin, Mr. Liang Baofan, Ms. Yang Mingxia, Mr. Bai He, Ms. Xing Chunyan, Ms. Xing Chunrong, Ms. Lei Xiuxiang, Ms. Fu Junjuan and Ms. Fu Junli.
