Good People Behind Bars on New Year's

January 04, 2016 |

(Minghui.org) “I've spent 10 New Year holidays in detention during the past 16 years. Having my family torn apart hurt more than the torture,” said Ms. Wu Qinchai in her criminal complaint against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in her long years of incarceration.

While Ms. Wu from Anyang City, Henan Province was finally released and reunited with her family, six others from the same city are still behind bars for their belief in Falun Gong. At this new year, they will not be able to celebrate the holiday with their families.

Ms. Chen Xuesheng, in her 60s, retired from Anyang City Daily Chemical Factory. She was arrested in November 2011 for distributing Falun Gong literature and sentenced to five years in prison in May 2013. She developed symptoms of high blood pressure shortly after she was admitted to Xinxiang Prison. She is now unable to take care of her ill father, who is in his 80s.

Ms. Li Xiuzhen, nearly 60, is a retired primary school teacher. She was arrested and her home ransacked in November 2013 before being sentenced to three years in prison based on fabricated charges. The verdict referred to her as being "unemployed" instead of listing her actual occupation.

Ms. Wang Fang, 48, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2010. Only a year after her release, she went missing in 2014. It was later discovered that she had been sent to prison again. The length of her sentence is unknown. During her first incarceration, her husband, mother-in-law, and uncle passed away under tremendous stress. Ms. Wang's three daughters, two of them minors, were left on their own.

Ms. Sang Shunyun, 56, was arrested in March 2014 for talking about the persecution of Falun Gong and encouraging people to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party. She was sentenced to three years in April 2015. Ms. Sang previously endured two years of forced labor. At that time, her family broke up, and two of her children went to work in other cities to avoid being implicated.

Ms. Li Aiping, 57, was an engineer at a waste disposal station. She was sentenced to three years in prison in November 2015. Her blood pressure is now dangerously high. She had previously been sent to forced labor camps twice, for a total of five years. She was also forced to leave home to avoid further persecution and terminated from her job. Her husband divorced her under the pressure.

Ms. Li Hui, 53, was secretly arrested and imprisoned in September 2015 for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin. She was sentenced to three years with three years probation in May 2013. She was then fired from the Housing Construction Bureau. Her nearly 80-year-old parents are desperately worried about her.
