(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Guiying, a senior engineer from the 29th Institute of Electronic Information Corporation in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, was arrested at her home on November 25, 2015, for filing a criminal lawsuit against Jiang Zemin.
Her arrest was formally approved by the Jinniu District Procuratorate on December 28, 2015, which means it is likely that she will be tried and sentenced.
On the day of her arrest, representatives from her neighborhood committee asked to search her home, which she refused to allow. Later, property management personnel came knocking on the door, claiming they needed to check the electric meter.
When her husband opened the door, police officers and local authorities swarmed in and arrested the couple. Their home was ransacked, and many personal belongings were confiscated. Ms. Liu's husband was released later and put under house arrest.
One of Ms. Liu's cousins hired a lawyer on her behalf. But detention center authorities refused to allow the lawyer to see her on the grounds that the lawyer was not retained by an immediate family member. The lawyer commented that in all his years of practicing law, he had never heard of such a requirement.
Ms. Liu's family then hired a lawyer, who was eventually allowed to see her. When he went to the police station to file the paperwork to represent Ms. Liu, the officer in charge of the case told him that her case files had been refused by the Procuratorate the first time they were submitted. When the police submitted her case a second time on December 25, it was accepted and her arrest was officially approved by the Procuratorate on the 28th.
Ms. Liu Guiying, in her 50s, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Her health problems, including migraines, disappeared, and she began to enjoy life again.
Since July 1999, she has been arrested, forced to undergo brainwashing, and fired from her job because she refused to give up her faith. Her health deteriorated, and she once fainted in detention.
Ms. Liu filed a lawsuit against Jiang Zemin with the Supreme Procuratorate and the Supreme Court in China on June 1, 2015. More details of her lawsuit were reported here.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
