(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Xingmei's elderly parents were affected by the persecution of their daughter and live a very difficult life since she was sentenced in 2014.
Ms. Zhao Xingmei from Chongqing City, 52, was arrested on January 10, 2014 and sentenced to five years imprisonment in June 2014. She is detained in the Jiulongpo District Women's Prison in Chongqing City.
Ms. Zhao's mother Ms. Yan Yongqiong, 78, is from a family whose members are considered martyrs by the Chinese Communist Party. A monument was built, which stands in the center of Beijing's Tiananmen Square, to honor the People's Heroes, called martyrs, people who died during the revolutionary struggles.
Ms. Yan was not given fair treatment as becoming to descendants of martyrs, by the Chinese regime. Ms. Zhao's step father Xia Cailin, 83, was a demobilized soldier who did not receive fair compensation. Both rely on Ms. Zhao to make ends meet.
After Ms. Zhao was imprisoned, her parents have suffered physical and mental harm because she was their caretaker.
Ms. Zhao's mother visited Ms. Zhao in prison on July 13, 2015. She broke her leg on her way back home when she got off the train. She was taken to the Wanzhou District Hospital on August 1 and is still hospitalized. She had cerebral thrombosis, a stroke that results from the blockage in blood vessels supplying blood to the brain, because of the accident.
Ms. Zhao's father spent over 20,000 yuan in medical expenses and still sees no end to more medical treatment expenses. The doctor told him that his wife might become paralyzed. Given that they have 2,000 yuan monthly retirement income, which barely covers monthly expenses, they are devastated.
