70-Year-Old Ms. Zhang Laihua's 3-Year Sentence Upheld by Higher Court

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Laihua from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, was tried in the Gaoping District Court on June 30, 2015. She was illegally sentenced to a three-year prison term on July 1.

Ms. Zhang appealed, but the Nanchong City Intermediate Court upheld the original verdict on July 28. She was secretly taken to Jianyang Women’s Prison on August 4.

Ms. Zhang, in her 70s, spent her meager pension on a trip to Jiangling Town on December 24, 2014, to distribute informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested and detained in the Huafeng Detention Center in Nanchong City before being tried.

The attorney hired by her family said after visiting Ms. Zhang that she was in a bad way both physically and mentally.
