Snapshot of Falun Gong Practitioners Whose Copies of Lawsuits Against Jiang Zemin Were Received by Minghui on July 3, 2015

(Minghui.org) Many Falun Gong practitioners are now exercising their legal right to sue Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and causing them great harm and tremendous suffering during the past 16 years. The momentum of this new wave of lawsuits against the former Chinese dictator is on the rise.

The Minghui website receives copies of criminal complaints against Jiang from many practitioners daily. In this report, we present a snapshot of some of the practitioners whose copies of lawsuits were received by Minghui on July 3, 2015.

These lawsuits are mailed to the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate, which are required to process all criminal complaints filed by citizens, as of a recent ruling by the Supreme People's Court.

Summary of Persecution Facts

Practitioners who filed lawsuits include a physician, a retired military officer, a former propaganda officer, and the wife of a practitioner who passed away as a result of the persecution.

Dr. Ling Dan was born into a well-respected family. Her father was a geologist and her mother a medical doctor. Since the onset of the persecution, Dr. Ling has been repeatedly harassed and detained. Her parents endured great stress during this time and passed away.

Mr. Yao Rongxuan had a promising military career. He was forced to resign from the military and his wife divorced him because she could not bear the stress from the persecution of her husband.

Ms. Han Yuejuan, a widow, was secretly detained, leaving her middle-school-aged son with no one to look after him.

After Mr. Song Youchun died from torture at a detention center, police detained his wife, daughter and brother to keep them from pursuing an investigation into his death.

Case 1: Dr. Ling Dan (凌丹)

Key Facts

Dr. Ling was illegally detained multiple times for telling the public about the persecution of Falun Gong. When she left home to avoid arrest, police held her husband hostage for over a month in hopes of capturing her.

She was arrested in 2009 and sentenced to one year and three months of forced labor. While imprisoned, her mother Ms. Wang Yuanlan, also a Falun Gong practitioner, fell ill and passed away on March 10, 2010.

Dr. Ling's father, Mr. Ling Pengcheng, was a civil engineer and geologist. His health deteriorated from the stress, and he passed away on May 23, 2015.

Case 2: Mr. Yao Rongxuan (尧荣宣)

Key Facts

Mr. Yao was forced to resign from the military after the communist regime began suppressing Falun Gong. He was arrested and sentenced to 18 months of forced labor for telling the public about the persecution. While imprisoned, he was shocked by guards with electric batons and was near death several times.

Mr. Yao was sentenced to seven years of forced labor for exposing the rape of Ms. Wei Xingyan by police. Ms. Wei was a student at Chongqing University in 2003.

Mr. Yao's wife, Ms. Xu Xiaoqin, is also a Falun Gong practitioner. She was detained three times in 2012.

Police broke into their home and arrested Ms. Xu in April 2013. Ms. Xu was sentenced to three years of forced labor.

Case 3: Ms. Han Yuejuan (韩跃娟)

Key Facts

“Each sentence you shout is one more year in prison,” the judge threatened at Ms. Han's trial in 2002 when she shouted “Falun Dafa is Good” in court. She was sentenced to six years in prison, three years more than the original sentence.

In prison, she was monitored by inmates around the clock. She could not use the toilet without someone watching her. She was not allowed to talk to anyone, threatened, subjected to brainwashing, and forced to perform heavy labor.

Prior to that, Ms. Han had been illegally detained multiple times and was fired from from her job because she refused to renounce her belief in Falun Gong.

Ms. Han's husband was a military observer in the United Nations peacekeeping force. He died while on duty years ago. Ms. Han and their son are living on his pension from the United Nations.

Current Situation: Ms. Han is still closely monitored by authorities. She is not allow to travel abroad.

Case 4: Mr. Song Youchun (宋友春)

Key Facts

When police broke into Mr. Song's home in the morning of December 2, 2003, they seized all the valuables they could find, including a television and a VCD player. They took Mr. Song, his wife, and their daughter to the local police station, where the police commander wanted a bribe for their release. The family had no more money to give after being extorted repeatedly by local government officials.

Mr. Song was tortured to death at the detention center on December 15, 2003, 13 days after his arrest. There were purple bruises on his head and around his left ear, a dark brown-purple mark on the neck, food remains in his nose, and bruises on his back and buttocks.

Mr. Song's wife recently filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin for the wrongful death of her husband.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
