(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Yuhua from Baigou Town, Baoding City, Hebei Province was sentenced to 7 years in prison on August, 15, 2014 for his faith in Falun Gong. He appealed the sentence. However, the Baoding Intermediate's Court upheld the original sentence on June 3, 2015.

Illegally Detained for One Year and Six Months

Police in civilian clothes from the Baoding 610 Office, Baigou Town Domestic Security Division and Criminal Division broke into Mr. Zhang's house at 7 a.m. on December, 17, 2013. They arrested him and took away a large number of personal belongings. Mr. Zhang was transferred to the Gaobeidian Detention Center on the evening of December 31.

Baigou 610 Office and Baigou Town Domestic Security Division illegally extended his detention as they searched for evidence to try him.

Mr. Zhang was tried secretly by the Gaobeidian Court at the detention center on August, 15, 2014. He was tried again on January 13, 2015. His family and his lawyer were not notified of the two trials. The seven-year sentence was given after the trials.

Appeal for the Illegal Sentence and Letter of Complaint

Mr. Zhang decided to appeal the verdict. His lawyer and family submitted a not guilty plea on his behalf to Baoding City Intermediate Court on May 18, 2015. At the same time they also submitted Mr. Zhang's letter of complaint against the illegal actions of officials who fabricated the evidence.

Mr. Zhang's lawyer pointed out that the case had no foundation. He said, “This case is essentially a patchwork and fabricated case. Police first arrested Mr. Zhang Yuhua and then tried to search for evidence to make a case. Mr. Zhang was illegally detained for one year and six months in order to buy time to cook up the charges. He has been illegally detained and mistreated because of his personal belief. It wasted his life and completely destroyed his happy marriage. It also wasted a great deal of judicial resources. An innocent person was put on trial. "

The Baoding Intermediate's Court announced it upheld the original verdict on June 3, 2015.
