(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioner Li Shuping and his wife have filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The complaint holds Jiang responsible for the unlawful imprisonment and torture they endured. They mailed the complaint to the Supreme People's Procuratorate in Hunan Province, China, on May 25, 2015.

Mr. Li sent his complaint to the Supreme People's Procuratorate, holding Jiang responsible for the unlawful imprisonment and torture he was subjected to because he practices Falun Gong.

Li Shuping, in his 50s, was the Dean of Studies at the School for Employees' Children, Lengshuijiang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd in Hunan Province. He was a widely respected math teacher. His wife, Liu Xiaoling, worked at the same company before she retired.

Both suffered unlawful imprisonment and torture simply because they persevered in their practice of Falun Dafa after Jiang Zemin launched a nationwide campaign to crush it on July 20, 1999.

Mr. Li was detained five times: three administrative detentions, one criminal detention and one detention in a brainwashing center. His employer was forced to dismiss him because he persisted in his faith in Falun Dafa. To make ends meet, he worked at various jobs in the factory. The factory went through a reform in late 2008, and workers were given severance packages. He resigned under pressure. He continues to work as a student tutor. He is often harassed and monitored by local Party authorities.

His wife, Xiaoling Liu, was imprisoned eight times, including four times in forced labor camps for a total of five years. She was tortured while imprisoned, and almost lost her life due to a brutal beating she received while locked up in Baimalong Labor Camp. She too is monitored by local authorities.

Police have ransacked their home more than ten times, seizing personal belongings including computers.

The couple asks the Supreme Procuratorate to indict Jiang and bring him into justice for his crimes in the persecution of Falun Gong. They also seek compensation for economic losses and mental suffering incurred during their years of detention and imprisonment for refusing to renounce their belief in Falun Dafa.

Background

Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent persecution of Falun Dafa in 1999. Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organization, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The hierarchy at each level manipulates police forces, courts and local CCP authorities in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

The persecution has led to the deaths of more than 3,800 Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. The number could be much higher due to the ongoing persecution and the information blockage in China. More have been tortured for their belief. What is worse, many thousands were even killed for their vital organs for lucrative profit in transplantation. Jiang is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases. Many practitioners who suffered imprisonment or torture are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
