(Minghui.org) “I'm fortunate to be a policeman in Taiwan. I can follow my conscience to do what I should do as a policeman. Most of all, I have the freedom to practice Falun Gong and follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.” Mr. Pan Yi'an, a police officer in Taiwan, shares how he learned Falun Gong and his advice to policemen in mainland China who have been forced to participate in the persecution of innocent people – Falun Gong practitioners who simply want to practice their belief.

Searching for the Meaning of Life

Yi'an grew up in a happy family. Both of his parents are civil service employees. Yi'an and his older sister get along very well and take care of each other. Like many families in Taiwan, his believes in Buddhas, reincarnation, and the principle that “the good will be rewarded and the wicked punished.”

Growing up, Yi'an heard many stories of Buddhism and read many of the Buddhist scriptures. He never stopped searching for the meaning of life and a path to heaven. However, he didn't find the kind of answers he was looking for in any of the books or scriptures he read.

Finding Falun Gong through News about the Persecution

Mr. Pan Yi'an

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Gong in mainland China in 1999, news about the persecution spread to Taiwan. Yi'an was a college student at the time and became curious about what was going on across the strait. He wondered, “Why did the CCP choose to suppress Falun Gong out of all the qigong practices? The CCP has a record of lying and violating human rights. Based on the CCP's history of the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Square Massacre, what it chose to suppress have been good things. This must be the case with Falun Gong.”

During his research to find out what actually happened in China, Yi'an began exploring Falun Gong in depth and ended up finding it to be a great cultivation practice. Yi'an, his mother, and sister attended a nine-day Falun Gong lecture series, and have been practicing ever since.

Recounting his experience, Yi'an said, “When I first read Zhuan Falun, I thought it was a book that teaches people good morality. After reading it three times, I found it is a book of high-level cultivation. The principles are profound but the language is easy to understand. The words hit the nail on the head. I found answers to my questions about the meaning of life!”

Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance Keeps Me Away from Temptations

Yi'an's job as a policeman brings him in close contact with all of the problems affecting society, including disputes, violence, crimes related to money, prostitution, etc. His job often requires him to go to many indecent places. Yi'an said, “Sometimes temptations arose, but I remind myself that I am a cultivator. I calm down, and smoothly do my job. I feel fortunate that I have Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in my heart. These principles keep me away from all temptations.”

Advice to Policemen in Mainland China

To help expose the persecution of Falun Gong in China, Yi'an played the role of a Chinese policeman during a re-enactment of forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners. It is a hard role to play for a kind-hearted policeman who has taken safeguarding the people as his responsibility. On the other hand, Yi'an feels very sorry for the Chinese police who have taken part in the persecution. The crimes they have committed include torture and genocide, the same as Nazi war criminals. These officers have to be held accountable for their crimes.

Yi'an would like to advise the police in mainland China, “Never say, 'I'm simply following orders from of my higher-up.' Never use it as your excuse. Your conscience cannot be overridden by orders. The persecutors will be punished, just as the Nazi police and medical employees who took part in the genocide of the Jewish people were punished. I hope that those who have participated in the persecution will see things clearly, stop committing crimes, and make up for their wrongdoing. Seize the chance to choose goodness and avoid being punished along with the CCP.”
