(Minghui.org) Nine years ago Falun Gong allowed me to truly forgive the young man who stabbed my son and almost killed him.

When my youngest son was a freshman in college, a classmate stabbed him over a misunderstanding. The stabbing was so severe that my son's intestines were exposed. When the school called, my husband and I were extremely worried, but I knew that my son would be fine in the end because he was a good person who had faith in Falun Dafa.

When we got to the hospital, our son was out of surgery and not in immediate danger. He was discharged in a week instead of a month as the doctor had initially predicted.

Several times I told the police officer who handled the case not to put my son's assailant in prison because he was too young and it would ruin his life. The officer asked if I wanted to reserve the right to sue him since there might be complications from the injury. I didn't want that, either.

I held no grudge against the assailant and did everything I could to help him and his family. The officer couldn't believe my response to the attack. “I have never seen anyone like you in my decades of police work. Our jobs would be much easier and society more stable if everyone acted the way you do,” he said.

The assailant's family and his teacher thanked me for being so forgiving. I told them that it was because I practice Falun Gong, which teaches me to be altruistic and to put myself in others' shoes.

The assailant saw me the day he was released from detention. He knelt down in front of me. I advised him to cherish his life and not to be so impulsive. I also told him that his life would be in good hands if he would follow the principles of Falun Dafa: Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He nodded in agreement many times before he left.
