(Minghui.org) “One should follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Truthfulness is to tell the truth, do true things, and be true to oneself. Compassion is to be kind and do good deeds. Forbearance is to be tolerant. The principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is a truth, a belief, and the standard for being a human being.” My father said these words in a toast at our family's 2015 Chinese New Year dinner.

My father was a veteran Chinese Communist Party (CCP) member. He had risen to the rank of Party Branch Secretary in a well-known state-owned enterprise by the time of his retirement. He experienced the many violent purges the Party orchestrated during his career, so he worried a lot for me when the Party began persecuting Falun Gong.

After reading the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, he said, “The commentaries are all right. The Party does not follow principles, but persecutes good people. It always claims to be 'great, glorious and correct.' Individuals are weak in the face of such a mighty, evil machine.”

I was imprisoned in labor camps for going to Beijing to speak out for the innocence of Falun Gong at Tiananmen Square. After my father heard the news, he fell down and was sent to an emergency room. My mother told him to recite, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” He shortly recovered and started reading the book Zhuan Falun.

He once said to my mother, tears in his eyes, “I'm ashamed for not being able to protect our son.” He knew the evil nature of communist party all too well, and was disheartened completely by the Party. Worry and stress about me caused him to drop 18 kg (40 pounds) by the time I was released.

The police would come to harass me during festivals or days on which they felt the need to “tighten control.” My father would tell me to hide while he made the officers leave.

Our building manager once collected CDs that Falun Gong practitioners distributed to each apartment to raise awareness of the persecution. My father saw him giving the CDs to a garbage collector and noticed that they were the Nine Commentaries. He retrieved the disks and put them in a place where others can take them.
