(Minghui.org) “I'm a Party member and I'll do what the Chinese Communist Party says, right or wrong!” said police chief Wang Zhaojun to the eight families who pressed him to release their loved ones arrested for distributing literature about what happened in Jiansanjiang.
Back on March 20, 2014, four lawyers and seven Falun Gong practitioners were arrested in Jiansanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, for seeking the release of other practitioners. Now being dubbed the "Jiansanjiang Case," their arrests have drawn widespread attention both inside and outside of China.
In response, the local authorities spread rumors that Falun Gong practitioners were making trouble for the government and that the attorneys involved were practicing law without a license. To dispel that misinformation, eight practitioners in the neighboring city of Fujin teamed up to pass out flyers laying out the facts of what happened in Jiansanjiang.
They were arrested on February 1, 2015, and remain in detention despite their families' plea to get them released.
The arrested practitioners are Ms. Wang Keping, Ms. Zhang Yan, Mr. Xu Wanfu, Mr. Sun Chengbo, Mr. Li Rongtang, Mr. Liu Baowen, Mr. Li Zaiyi, and Mr. Fu Chongbin in Heilongjiang Province. Police chief Wang and political instructor from the Erlongshan Police Station were involved in the arrests.
The eight detained practitioners
A dozen family members went to the police station in an attempt to have the practitioners released. After waiting outside for about five hours in temperatures below -25°C (-13°F), they were finally told that their request was denied.
More than 30 family members showed up the next day. They asked Wang to release the practitioners, but Wang again refused. He said, “The entire city is aware of the arrest. It isn't up to me now. The Fujin Police Department has approved their detention.”
Wang called the police department, saying, “Our cell phones have been ringing nonstop, and the callers even know our names. Come look! The room here is packed.”
After the practitioners were detained for over 24 hours, their relatives tried to talk to Wang to have the practitioners released. But Wang reported to the police, “They are making trouble for us and interfering with our work.”
Following Wang's report, seven vehicles from the Fujin Police Department arrived at the Erlongshan Police Station at around 10:00 p.m. to take the eight practitioners to the Fujin Detention Center.
The families discovered where the eight practitioners were several days later, but the police department refused to issue an official document for the detention.
