Shandong Woman Sentenced to Four Years Without Her Family's Knowledge

(Minghui.org) Six months after her illegal arrest, a Xintai, Shandong woman was sentenced to four years without her family's knowledge. Her loved ones didn't find out her fate until her transfer to Shandong Women's Prison, where she remains today.

Ms. Hu Laixiu (胡来秀) was arrested on January 13, 2014 for pasting self-adhesive labels printed with information about the persecution of Falun Gong [editors' note: this is a creative way Falun Gong practitioners in China use when all formal channels of appeals are deliberately closed to them].

During her six months of incarceration at Xintai City Detention Center, Ms. Hu remained steadfast in her belief in Falun Gong, and she was punished as a result. Feng Dayong (冯大勇), head of the Xintai Domestic Security Office, handcuffed and beat her savagely on several occasions.

Xintai City Court held a secret trial of Ms. Hu in mid-July without her family's knowledge. The judge sentenced her to four years using fabricated evidence submitted by the local police and the procuratorate.

Prior to this most recent arrest, Ms. Hu, a 37-year-old employee of the Shandong Energy Xinwen Mining Group, was once arrested in September 2010 and illegally detained for telling people about Falun Gong at a temple fair.
