(Minghui.org) The Laocheng District Court held a second trial against Ms. Li Xiaoyan and sentenced her to seven years' imprisonment on July 21, 2014. The trial and sentencing was manipulated by the Luoyang Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the Luoyang 610 Office.

The First Trial

The Laocheng District Court held the first trial against Ms. Li at around 10 a.m. on December 9, 2013. Two lawyers pleaded not guilty on her behalf.

One of the lawyers pointed out that government employees and judicial officers framed Falun Gong practitioners with the charge of “organizing and utilizing evil religious organizations to undermine the implementation of law.” They do this despite knowing that there was no evidence or legal basis for such charges. What they had done amounts to “illegally depriving citizens' religious belief” and violates Item No. 251 of the Criminal Law.

The lawyer also said that they illegally detained Ms. Li, abused their power, fabricated evidence, used the law for personal gain, and deprived people of freedom of religious belief. They should be taken to court and receive punishment.

Arrested and Detained

Ms. Li, about 30 years old, lives in Laocheng District, Luoyang, Henan Province. She brought her child to register for school on June 28, 2013. She was reported to police for talking to the principal about Falun Gong. The police arrested her that night, and she was taken to the Mangshan Detention Center.
