(Minghui.org) A judge in China recently acknowledged that the court answers to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and follows its orders.
Ms. Yang Hemei, a Falun Gong practitioner, was tried for "undermining the implementation of the law" on July 9, 2014, in Weidong Court in Pingdingshan City, Henan Province.
The charge was based on the sole fact that a large number of Falun Gong materials were found in Ms. Yang's home. Her attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf and asked the prosecutor how possessing those materials undermined the implementation of law.
The Trial a Farce
The chief judge convened the proceedings at 9:30 a.m. However, he only allowed the prosecutor to speak and interrupted Ms. Yang many times when she was defending herself.
Ms. Yang's attorney said: “To undermine the implementation of the law can only be carried out by someone with public power. Ms. Yang is no one special. The prosecutor hasn't provided evidence that Ms. Yang distributed any of those materials. How could she undermine the implementation of law?”
He also argued that possession of Falun Gong materials in and of itself doesn't constitute a crime according to existing law.
About 20 armed police officers guarded the outside of the courthouse on the morning of the trial.
Illegal Arrest
Ms. Yang Hemei was reported on March 4, 2014, for distributing Falun Gong truth clarification materials. Officers from the Dong'an Road Police Station arrested her and ransacked her home. They also arrested her husband and took the couple to the Pingdingshan Detention Center. Ms. Yang's husband was later bailed out.
Ms. Yang, 58, is retired from the Pingdingshan City Geology Company in Henan Province. She has been arrested many times since the CCP initiated the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. She has been held in a brainwashing center, detention center, and even a mental hospital. She has been monitored by officials from the local 610 Office.
