(Minghui.org) The family of Mr. Mo Zhikui traveled to the Hulan Prison for the seventh time hoping to see him. However, they were given the run around and only allowed to talk to him on the phone. Mr. Mo has tuberculosis and his condition is worrisome.
Mr. Mo's family went to the visiting hall of the Hulan Prison on May 26, 2014, and asked to see him. They were told by a guard to talk to the education department. After arriving at the education department they were told to wait. They waited for a while, but no one talked to them. They then approached the person in charge and were told to keep waiting.
They waited until noontime. The family went back to the visiting hall in the afternoon. A guard told them that he had received instructions from his superior that the supervisors needed to think about it before they made a decision.
The family went to talk to the education department and were told that because Mr. Mo refused to wear the prison uniform, he was not allowed family visits. Mr. Mo's family said: “Practicing Falun Gong does not violate the law. It is wrong to detain him. You can't treat him as a criminal.”
In the end, the family was allowed to talk to Mr. Mo on the phone. Mr. Mo informed them that his health had deteriorated and he had lost his appetite. His lungs were also in pain. He had been taken to a hospital to have an X-ray, but the doctor didn't tell him his diagnosis. From the X-ray he could see that both of his lungs had deteriorated. He was also having difficulty walking. After talking to him, his family was very worried.
Mr. Mo Zhikui was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and taken to the Jiamusi Prison on September 21, 2013, He was later transferred to the Hulan Prison on September 30, 2013. He was held at the intensive training unit at the Hulan Prison Hospital, which was affiliated with the prison.
Mr. Mo's wife, children, and relatives had gone to the prison six times, but the guards created all kinds of obstacles and excuses to keep them from seeing him. They were finally permitted to see Mr. Mo after the family hired a lawyer. The family was also kept from sending in daily necessities or adding money to Mr. Mo's account for his basic needs at the prison.
Mr. Mo's family talked to the director of the Hulan Hospital in March and requested to view his medical records. They were told that the hospital didn't have CT or ultrasound equipment, and they could not really know the extent of the tuberculosis. The director said that Mr. Mo needed to be sent to a larger hospital where he could be monitored, as his condition could worsen at any time.
Wang Xiaochen from the local 610 Office and Li You from the intensive training unit said that Mr. Mo would be transferred to a different hospital if he wore the prison uniform and was handcuffed and shackled. His family would have to pay a minimum of 10,000 yuan if they decide to get the treatment for Mr. Mo.
Mr. Mo has an 89-year-old mother and a disabled son to look after. His wife is unemployed. The expenses are more than they can afford. Mr. Mo has not been taken to a hospital for treatment, and this has resulted in his declining health.
We call on the people around the world to assist in the rescue of Mr. Mo Zhikui.
