(Minghui.org) Mr. Qiao Zhanhe was secretly sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison on January 14, 2014.
Mr. Qiao Zhanhe, 64, lives in Wangyun Village of Zhiwen Town in Anping County of Hebei Province. He has been practicing Falun Dafa with his daughter for many years.
Mr. Qiao was illegally arrested at Wangyun Village on the afternoon of June 25, 2013, by several officers who identified themselves as there to repair electrical wires.
Mr. Qiao was secretly sentenced on January 14 to five-and-a-half years in prison. The court appointed a lawyer for Mr. Qiao. However, the lawyer never contacted him. The court lied to his family saying, “Mr. Qiao does not want a lawyer.” This was discovered after Mr. Qiao's family hired a lawyer for him and found out that Mr. Qiao never said he didn't want a lawyer.
Mr. Qiao's lawyer went to the county court and reviewed the case documents and prepared an appeal to the Henshui Intermediate Court. The court told the lawyer they would notify him in a month or a month-and-a-half to open the court session.
Mr. Qiao's family inquired at the court on April 25 about the status of the appeal. Judge Han Yinchun said, “the Henshui Intermediate Court upheld the original sentence.”
The lawyer later received the verdict, which had the date of April 8. Mr. Qiao's family questioned the court, “Why wasn't the family notified?” Judge Han Yinchun stalled, “We did not have a contact phone number.” The family asked, “You really don't have a contact phone member?” Han walked out from the court's back door and left. Thus Mr. Qiao was secretly sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison.
