Officers Neglect Laws to Illegally Detain Elderly Practitioner Ms. Zhang Chengjun

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Chengjun, 76, was illegally arrested at home at around 2 p.m. on February 18, 2014 by Li Bianjiang, judge of the Shahekou District Court, and officers from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the Police Department.

When being dragged through her front door, she shouted loudly, “I do not want to go with you. Let go of me!” She is being held at the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City, Liaoning Province.

According to the “Custody Management Regulations,” it is not allowed to detain elderly people over 70-years-old. However, because of the control by all Political and Legal Affairs Committees and the 610 Offices, existing Chinese laws and regulations may be circumvented or ignored.

Searching for Ms. Zhang

Since Ms. Zhang lived by herself, her relatives discovered that she disappeared a few days after her arrest. They went to all the relevant local departments including community offices, police stations, courts, detention centers, and reform facilities to ask for her whereabouts, but to no avail.

It was a week after Ms. Zhang's arrest when they were told that Ms. Zhang was being held in Room 0809 of the Yaojia Detention Center.

Ms. Zhang was tried by Li Bianjiang, judge of the Shahekou District Court in November 2013. She was sentenced for doing the Falun Gong exercises outdoors and mailing Falun Gong truth-clarification letters.

Around February 16, two days before Ms. Zhang's arrest, she told friends that judge Li called her twice.
