(Minghui.org) The local court and the 610 Office of Tonghua City, Jilin Province attempted to try Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Yingjie at the conference room of the Tonghua No. 3 Hospital on March 7, 2014. The trial was later moved to her hospital room because of her extremely weak physical condition.
Ms. Xu was lapsing in and out of consciousness during the court session, and her hands kept cramping. According to her defense attorney, trying Ms. Xu in her condition violates Article 200 of Chinese Criminal Law.
The attempt to try Ms. Xu eventually ended because the doctor drove everyone out of the room, saying that she was too weak to be subjected to such harassment. Judge Yang Wancheng stated that the trial would resume in 10 days.
When her attorney visited Ms. Xu again in the afternoon, he saw that she twitched uncontrollably and had severe spasms three times within half an hour. She was in great pain. She was nauseous and kept vomiting.
The Dongchang District Court scheduled the March 7 trial upon receiving the case on March 5. Only three family members were allowed to be present at the trial. The court didn't provide a copy of the Procuratorate's charges against Ms. Xu and her attorney at least 10 days prior to the trial, as required by Article 182 of Criminal Law.
Ms. Xu was illegally arrested on December 22, 2013 while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and the persecution. She was sent to the Changliu Detention Center in Tonghua City. There, she became ill due to torture and abuse. By the time she was taken for a checkup at the Tonghua Central Hospital on February 28, 2014, she was unable to walk.
Ms. Xu was released from prison in 2010 after being sentenced to four years on January 17, 2008. Her husband, Mr. Sui Yanzhang was sentenced to seven years on the same day. He is still in the Gongzhuling Prison. His term is due on April 18, 2014.
